Another plug for the Lionchief version of the PE express! It is running so well on the Layout, I have the MTH Premier Berk on the siding.

I DO enjoy the clickety clack. Really, I do

But, as it is the living room, I'd still like to quiet it some more. I have ready access to the tpe of foam used in specialty cases. Does anyone think a layer, thick enough that it doesn't interfere with the lighting will help? I'm going to try, but was looking for anything folks found to be tried and true.

Is it the cars or is it the track? I was running my conventional PE on the table the other day and was thinking that the track reverberated a lot. This train is my first experience with FasTrack. I was also running my MTH GP-38 on it with a couple of MTH freight cars, and it didn't seem much quieter.

I'm going to be running it in an outside display soon on a 1/2" plywood table I'm building, and I think it's going to be LOUD. If insulating the cars will help, I'll try it. (Naturally, I wasn't smart enough to put anything under the track prior to screwing it down...)

Fred

It's both the roadbed and the cars. Anything under the track will help. Yes, Marty R. Anything foam like or rubber will reduce the noise of the cars. Both the roadbed and the cars act like chambers to amplify the vibrations.

fpatton-RealTrax and FasTrack are loud. The interior of the plane is most likely lined with 4-6mm sound deadening foam.

Forum member Lee Willis tried the expanding foam in a box car. You can guess what happened on his first attempt. The tpe foam you have should work great. Put some on the floor of the car and a couple of dots of craft glue should hold some on the roof.

The passenger car tops are a pain to remove. Trying to pinch the correct windows and lift is trying.

Thanks folks.

Fred, in my case, it's the cars. It's a carpet layout, my other cars are much quieter.

Moonman, - Yes they are. I use a pencil with the tip snapped off, to push the tabs. It is soft enough to not damage anything (yet.)

Pete, I'll keep it in mind. I'm going to try the free stuff first.

Then as these are on an 18V constant voltage system, I'm going LED, to reduce the heat on the foam.
