I haven't gotten much done this past week. So I thought I would take this opportunity to show some conceptual views of the basements.
Anyway, that's the method to this madness.

Alex, we'll both know when I get to that point. But the plan is for the layout to be a narrow, high shelf around the room. Not ceiling high, but in the 45" range. I don't plan on the basements being instantly viewable but a sort of hidden subject, meaning one would have to kneel or bend slightly to see it. Hopefully I can maintain that size restraint.
Btw, the framed walls in the bar basement are turned the wrong way, just for the record. Duh! 
Vulcan, Everytime I see a new picture of those buildings I keep picking out more and more details. You definitely achieved total realism. While looking at the pictures this time my eyes were drawn to the fall out shelter sign on the end building.It took me back to the catholic school days when we would practice going to the basement of the school" Fall out shelter" in case of emergency.
Anyway here is what I got this week. Mostly finished with H20 from last week. It took three applications of envirotex. I may work in some other details, maybe people swimming. I also started back populating the upper level with some trees. They are a mix of super trees combined with real branches etc.
Vulcan - Wow! It's cool to get a taste of how everything's going to fit together. The basements look great!
I'm still working on the coal ramp but have not made much progress. My "mind's eye" just can't seem to focus in on how the last pylon should look. I did decide to go for a metallic look around the upper front portion.
The bumpers were removed and dipped in gun blue solution:
The top section was painted first with red primer and then Testor's Silver Metallic:
I took some 220 grit sandpaper and gently wore away some of the silver to reveal the red underneath. I followed up with dullcote and acrylic paints:
Fred....glad you got this started this week!! Spent until 3A.M. setting up a 300 gallon aquarium (another hobby of mine!) and just now woke up...
Great pictures everyone!....Fred, the basement project is not only fantastic but unique. Your proposal of how folks will view them is perfect....
Below are a few more pictures of the scene around the gas station....I took them in low light for effect...problem is I don't know what kind of effect I got!! LOL!!

Another Sunday of mighty good and interesting work folks. One of the best things is that the projects all leave us something to look forward to in weeks to come--well maybe months for one

Not much done recently on the round-the-room layout. Just a scene of the DeMarco Brothers [and cousins] completing work replacing the Engine Shop roll roofing. During the extremely hot wheather recently,Guilio the boss brother had them at work by daylight and knocking off at noon.
Great work everyone! I finished the small station and now back in the paint shop.

At least one of those basements must belong to a train guy. Which one will have the train layout?!! The big one under the meat/fish market seems perfect.

You guys are amazing! Lot's for us 'regular folk' to aspire to...
We just installed a nice 8 arch, 13' viaduct that flanks our Hellgate Bridge (T-Repoductions) and are getting ready to finally start ground cover and other scenery. Our house is for sale as we need to move down from the mountain and nearer to town now that we've gotten older. Consequently, I'm doing a down n' dirty approach to landscaping to get some color and texture so I can create a nice photo album for us before having to dismantle the layout. I hate coming this far with my first layout and have to face demolition. Kind of a strange situation to be in!
Check out this nice work done by Tim W of the Forum. he built the bridge at his home and shipped it to us in two large boxes. It was primed and my wife and I painted it. Still a few details to add but now we can continue working on the rest of the layout!
