Sunday Scenic Showcase December 12,2021

Began assembling this B.T.S. Cabin Creek Coal Tipple kit a couple of weeks prior to Thanksgiving.  It took a while to get it off the ground but finally completed on Friday. It is one structure of four of the complete Tipple operations. I began painting the many window pieces for the Conveyor House on Saturday.

The finished Cabin Creek Tipple will rest upon my friend’s layout located in Danville WV.

Alan, amazing as usual.  Hess and Texaco in the same model, what real life facility and where was it located?

Alan you are a master with these types of facilities. We always enjoy looking at the detail on your work.

Seth, nice job. Ours is still in the box awaiting the time when we get to the left end of the layout. You did a great job. Thanks for sharing.

This week we have been cutting and installing work pits by Crescent Locomotive Works that will be in two diesel service buildings. Setting the track is next, then the buildings can finally be touched up and installed, and the interior detailed.

Doc Holden is the chief builder and doesn’t want to weather them. He may regret it one day when he decides that weathering is more realistic. For now, “modeling the 40s-50s and these were built in 1956. They are weathered.”

Took another vacation day for hobby work and made some progress on Boston Fish Pier.
After completing construction of the building, I mocked up the look of the area and compared to historical photos.

Then committed to building a scenic module from 1x3 pine for the base and 1/2 inch mdf, assembled and threw in lots of random details to mockup the clutter of the busy dockside.  I can't visualize a scene from scratch so I always go in steps and check periodically how it looks and adjust.

Plenty of detail work to be done on all aspects of this module but I'm happy with how the overall look has come together.  I may put together a full thread on construction of this as I make progress.

Typically I get one modeling sprint in December where I use up vacation days and then it's tough to find time to continue but I'm glad to have made progress on this.

Alan and all great showcase!!  Great variety of projects. Dave keep those vacation days coming Great harbor project. Bill hope you can keep us updated. Amazing pits with lighting.

The yard is pretty empty, just a few cars out for interchange as the local plods by. Residents don’t notice anymore.  Now that the smiling warehouse has opened up, those grey trucks are all that matters.

Holiday activity at the North Main Street station as steam and diesel pull in at the same time...Santa makes an appearance for the kids...little and big...

Last weeks project...

The new trucks snap off & on. Doors are warped and sloppy flashing around roof holes, poor quality issues. Hatches on the real C.G. photo look square?

I finally finished and shipped the Horseshoe Meadows Depot.

I think I am going to fix up (paint) and sell an MTH depot I have on the layout - it is bigger than what I need. I am going to replace with something like the above depot.

At the moment, you’re kinda lookin at it.  I mean, there’s more track but it’s more disaster than layout right now.

Coach, this refinery was located in Port Reading, N.J,  Most of these facilities are located next to each other on the water or where a pipe line goes through an area.
