Depends on what era you want. A quickie reference look shows - Early possibly had as few as 5 cars. Mid 50s, as many as 11. Coach’s dominate the consist as it’s just a Very Short but important run between LA and San Diego.
Perhaps SF fans would flock to reserve this but the flip side it’s Very Regional. I’m not sure if it would get the reservation #s needed to “fly”. Anyway, Right now the 37 Super Chief is ahead of it and it’s at least half a transcon passenger train with appeal to people across quite a large area.

I had hoped the E1's would be available in those numbers as A units, only, in this historic release. I'd have bought a singleton...or two...more if offered as such. Maybe they'll be offered as such in the sure-to-follow 2nd runs!?
But I'm ecstatic just to have my treasured, long-awaited EA and E1 pairs. I haven't posted an assessment of my own pairs. I'm still speechless. After 77 years and 9 months of life in this hobby, I can, however, truthfully say the missing icons of my personal collection have come home.

I ended up with an early E1 and early EA AB sets. I Had wanted both early and late SFs “A” and an early EA “A”. I had to go with the flow and am VERY pleased with both sets. I still want a late SF “A” only so I hope down the road in a second run, Scott makes that an option. If a second run happens down the road (maybe in conjunction with the 37 Super Chief ?) and “A”s are offered as singletons, maybe we can get Scott to Consider Offering the “Alton” or GM&O (my preference) EA “A”. The B&O “sold” one EA”A” to their Alton subsidiary. It was used between Chicago and St. Louis. The “A” ended up with GM&O when the Alton merged with the GM&O. The paint jobs on these two are quite beautiful. This EA is a rare “bird” for sure. It would be cool to see this one done !!!!

Thanks! I used Tamiya’s flat aluminum. I also did a two part piece for the o scale resource on upgrading the 1938 SC.

Slightly off topic...but not really....
Parallel to all of our successful groveling for Scott to give us E1's and EA's in O2R/O3R has been Broadway Limited's 2nd (or is it the 3rd???
) run of the same in HO. INCLUDING THE ALTON AND GM&O VERSIONS!!!! And the migration of paint/detail variations of the E1's as they evolved up to their final conversion to E8's.
I know, I know. We in the O2R/O3R domain are part of the hobby's minor market. But IMHO, the actual market goes far beyond only the 'Warbonnet'- and 'Beano'-philes for this pair of icons (NOT an overused descriptor) no matter the scale. And, although as I write this I have absolutely no idea what's happened to the VERY few extra O2R/O3R units of this edition to which Scott alerted us, but I'd be willing to bet they're all gone well before the end of this month...if even that long.
Ah, well, it's all fodder for interesting discussion. And maybe, after the current wallet wounds have healed, it'll be time to prostrate ourselves...again! (And, yes, as you grow older I do, indeed, find myself looking around for what else I can accomplish while I'm down there!!!...since getting back up is such a PITA!!!)
Ah, what the heck! At the rate Scott's hitting the carnival gong with his releases, I may as well stay down there!

It is. Crank called it because of the yellow grab irons which caused great angst and gnashing of teeth when that model was released in 2018. I'd paint the grab irons red for the as-built colors of the grab irons, but it is more fun to watch ATSF experts blow a head gasket when they see it. 
Thanks, @GG1 4877. I've seen examples of most 3rd Rail models, but not the E8s. Those look good to me, yellow grabs and all. And I'm glad that Crank has gotten something right.

Ooooo this is a Nice Little Detail. 😜 The ends of the MUs on the B&O are painted silver. Great contrast on the dark end of the diesel !!!

Off topic, but I like the Sunset E8s in general. I have 5 A units and 1 B unit from that project. ATSF, Amtrak, and PRR.
Semi-on topic as this is my version of a Southwest Limited until SDP40Fs eventually get some traction.
And of course, I would be remiss not to have this scheme in 2 rail. Leave it to me to ruin a perfectly good ATSF thread with a PRR locomotive.
Back to your regularly scheduled E1 / EA conversation. If I were more of a B&O modeler, I really like the late scheme with all those black pinstripes on the nose. I could almost go for a Royal Blue one day.

Well it came last evening..SF E1 A/B #4...home with covid so I didnt feel up to checking it out till this morning ...My 1st reaction can not be printed on this family friendly forum but it did have amazing incredible and OMG in the desription ..what a beautiful pc..its programed and I ran it around the big loop slowly and then a lil faster up to a nice medium speed that looked perfect ..Im hooked and in love .. Im building a third level upper loop that goes around the whole layout and circles within its self over the turn table just for this Engine to run on

Pulled the trigger today and pre-ordered a 1937 Super Chief set with an add-on 8-1-2 and 6-6-2 to make for a prototypical 8 car set to go with my #9 even if it was assigned to the Golden Gate. May God rest my soul when my wife finds out.

Can understand that horror. A friend got the Sunset Central of Georgia E unit and was quite disappointed it came with the bright yellow grabs rather than the as built black ones, it seems most modelers prefer the as built paint. A nightmare to paint them black.

Yes there should be 4. Send an email to Scott telling him of the missing part. He will send you the missing piece. And make sure you ask for specific model as B&O MUs are different from the SF.
