GRJ, can you tell me what pin may give 5VDC on an ERR Cruise Commander M. I've installed this on an original Lionel C&O Allegheny. I want to install the Super Chuffer and per your instructions I need to supply the input voltage.

The power for the Super Chuffer comes from the pickup roller. Track AC. Is that what you need to know?
Just to add what Chuck says, there is a 5 volt regulator on the chuff board powered by track voltage. You can use it to power the chuff generator.
A Cruise M does not provide 5 volts but there is 5 volts on the R2LC/R4LC pins 19 and 20. Lionel doesn't recommend using this though.

The chuff board has 5 v on H1 pins #9 and 10 with a limit of 200 ma.
Thanks for the replies. I made a mistake. I'm talking about the New Chuff enhancement Unit. Not the supper chuffer.

Since you are upgrading, I would reccommend doing both... the Super Chuffer and the Chuff Generator. That gives you the upgraded smoke and the 5VDC supply to drive the Chuff Generator. Its the best of the best with ERR Cruise.
The chuff generator is handy if your engine does not already have 4 chuffs. If it does have 4 chuffs then its not really needed. Whatever is providing the 4 chuffs can drive the super chuffer directly.

The Chuff-Generator requires 5 volts at around 20ma. In the rare cases I don't have a Super-Chuffer in the installation, I use a little 5V power board that I hand rolled for stuff like this. It's just a 22uh choke, diode, cap, and 5V regulator. There's also a small output cap for stability. I just put whatever voltage regulator I need in the board, and I even can use it for constant current to light LEDs with a CL2 installed in place of the regulator. The same board is good for any voltage that a TO-92 3-terminal regulator is produced in.
Thank you.
