It's #SwitcherSaturday time!!!!

Lots of us out there love switchers (shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters, etc.), so lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

If you missed last week's SWSAT you need to circle back and take a look!
https://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/t...saturday-2016-nov-05

This week in my switching yard we still have my MTH RailKing NYC 0-8-0 #9000 (30-1255-1), but it's joined by a couple dockside switchers and a ton of other New York Central rolling stock. I added some track between the "working" track but otherwise haven't made much progress.

Please enjoy your weekend and if you get a chance post some pictures/videos/stories of your favorite switchers!

Best...Rich Murnane

p.s. Miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

Happy Switcher Saturday everyone! Rich, thanks for another week of posting our favorite topic. I think you need a tower to control your heavy freight traffic there!

My contribution is a line-up of my most recent switchers (except for the one at Harry Hennings being repaired). So, left to right, there is #231, #230, #233 and #232.

Besides celebrating Switcher Saturday, today is also National Pizza Day!

SWSat is on!

Rich I love all that Jade Green and Grey Lightning Stripes. It doesn't take long to fill a yard does it? Those two Steamers have thier work cut out for them.

This week I am just going to post some pics of my Williams 44 tonner. I had a longer post about switching sites in the South Bronx from a long walk I made last weekend but it has been a long week.

So here is my Williams unit.

PS nice line up Tom. You have quite a fleet. Very nice.

Hey Andy, I love your pics and that little 44-tonner, I think someone compared that Williams one to the new MTH one but I can't find the thread.  The first obvious difference?  The price of course.

p.s. I'm looking forward to some pictures of the storefronts you whip up with your team, let us know when you have some ready to share, would love to see them again...

Rich as far as building structures for your layout I think the best thing is to just jump in and do it.

I found a stationary shop near me that carries Midwest wood products made for architectural models. These work really great for Model making and you end up with what you really want not just what someone else makes. The structure building topic here seems a good place to get direction. The hardest parts to acquire seem to be window and door castings. A lot of companies seem to be offering less of them but Shapeways seems to be an option.

The most important thing seems to be to reenforce the walls with bracing and undercoating both sides of the walls before you paint the outside or the walls warp with the paint.

Good morning SSWAT friends!!  Great photos today as always!!

Rich, check out the Arbutus, Md. train show in December.  I found a MTH tower there for 15 bucks in excellent condition!   You may already know about this show so I may be preaching to the choir.  Over the years I've gotten some great deals there.

Yes, I agree that it does not take long to fill a yard.  At least a full yard can keep the yard goats busy.

Silver Lake - I love the 44 ton switcher!!  I hope to have one on my layout soon ... probably the MTH  version in Western Maryland livery if budget allows.  Thanks for your inspiring photo!

Tom- I love it that you collected all those switchers in numeric order!

Jim - great photo of your MP 15 in action!!  Love the mill!!

Here is some photos of switching action on the Free State Junction Railway this week.  Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!!IMG_0405IMG_0124IMG_0130IMG_0679IMG_0725IMG_0681IMG_0705

Pat, I was looking at your back drops this time when I noticed more of the little things you have included in your scenes.  Take for instance, the bird house.  Nice job!

I hope to remember to include little things like this when I get to scenery building.

Dennis

Dennis - thanks for noticing!  Yes it is the small details that make a difference when doing scenery.

Hey guys, great week this week, thanks to everyone for goofing off here with me, and yes Dave/Steamer, I signed up to stalk you forever more!

Tom/MNCW:  Thanks again for waking up early with me each week, this thing is really fun and I always look forward to our banter!

Pat/TrumpTrain:  I haven't been to a show in Arbutus, if it's not too much trouble please let me know where/when it is, I know there is one in Timonium the first weekend of Dec which I was thinking about going to if I can.  Two other things:  1. yes, the little things in your layout are fantastic and 2. we really should meet up one of these days, perhaps after the holidays if we can't do it sooner.

Andy/SilverLake:  I think I need some crafty modeling practice, the little watch booth (shanty) I started earlier this year is still sitting on the bench in a half complete state, once the winter months come I hope to get more time to do some of this stuff.  I really do like that little WBB 44-tonner, just seems like a great little engine and a great value for the price.

Jim Z:  Great picture and scene, I started singing (in my head) the John Cougar Mellencamp "Ain't that America" when I saw that picture, just plain old fashion American good stuff there.

CNJ/Joe A:  these pictures are fantastic, absolutely worth printing out, heck I might print that first one and hang it in my workroom above my workbench loop, hope you don't mind!

BAR GP7 #63:  your modeling is absolutely awesome, thank you for coming "over the pond" to share these pictures with us each week, they really are an inspiration.

Andy/SteamFan:  I'm closely following your LIRR/OysterBay thread - as you know (I think I've told you a few times) that area is where I grew up so thanks for posting both there and here.  What really impresses me is is that your plans show you are even going to build the small turntable at the Jakobson shipyard, I can't wait to see how that is going to turn out.  I also love that LIRR steamer you have there, great stuff.

JHZ563:  thanks for sharing those "real world" switcher pictures!  I wonder if you are one of the only regular SwitcherSaturday guys who works in railroading?

Chris/LEHIGH VALLEY RAILROAD:  the prototype and the model, great pictures.  That yard/layout looks like it'd be a lot of fun, thanks for sharing the pictures.

Dave/Steamer:  It's almost like you have a Super-Secret-Source-Of-Steamer-Pictures (say that three times fast).   Thanks for joining and sorry you had to work so late.   It looks like you have a Pre-War 1662 with a Post-War tender, I've been thinking about grabbing a 1662/63 off the bay one of these days so I could pull some of my tinplate stock around, it's on the wish list for sure.

Bruce/BRWEBSTER:  what kind of kit is that and can you please keep us posted on your build along the way? :-)

PROSPECTOR:  A docksider running the carpet central, what could be more fun? :-)

PENNSYLVANIA & OHIO RR CONWAY:  Wherever you guys are it looks like it'd be a lot of fun!  I hope you get rolling again soon.

DOHERTYNJ:  another prototype and model, great stuff and thanks for sharing!

NICKAIX:  Thanks for doing the "homework" on this one.  I often google for the real-world trains people post here and try to figure out more info about them.

Well, thanks again to all of you for making my weekend even more enjoyable, and a special thanks to any Veterans out there who may read this each week.  We appreciate your service and sacrifice very much.

Best from Maryland...Rich Murnane

p.s.  Tom/MNCW has volunteered to run the show next week since I've got a family commitment and won't be able to get online, thanks Tom

Thanks Rich,

But I don't actually work in railroading,  I work at a coal (and gas) power plant.  My duties take me all over the plant so occasionally I get some great rr views.

Here's something a little easierto handle. Lionel southern RS3 and mth 0 6 0 on the two loops to nowhere.  Mth engine still for sale by the way, but now considered used as there is about 50 scale miles on it now.

Always a fan of switcher Saturday

Andy, I know your layout from your other (layout) thread. Nice to see that B6sb getting some work. Keep posting here when you can.

Rich: Thank you very much. I really appreciate your kind words. I think at switching is one of the best thing what a man can made whit a pants on.

Rich,

The S2 brass kit is by Gilmaur.   Picked it up last weekend at a local swap meet for $75 CDN.  The paperwork indicates that when new, which was around the year 2000, it cost $245 USD.  The kit does not include wheels or a drivetrain.  What really surprised me is the address for Gilmaur...

Mike Calvert

1 Grimms Hill,

Great Missenden,

Bucks HP16 9BG, England

I'm glad the kit hadn't been started.  It would bother me to no end that a partially built kit sits unfinished while other more important projects need attention.  So, it will remain in kit form for some time to come.

Bruce
