Happy Switcher Saturday everyone! Also, more importantly, don't forget it is Mother's Day on Sunday.

I am hosting this week's topic for Rich whose uncle recently passed away.

If this is your first time stumbling upon our topic, I would suggest that this be the creed of all switcher lovers:

We are a bunch of humble, switcher-loving, do-gooders who love all things switcher-related. So, if you have a switcher, have a picture of a switcher or smell like a switcher, post your switcher pictures, here!

Did I mention how humble we are?

If you missed last week's post, here it is:

https://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/...04#79142442771205504

I thought I would show two things which I recently bought on eBay...one was a PRR, circa 1947 NY Harbor map showing all railroad docks/trackage in the NY Harbor area. Imagine all the switching that went on there in the 1940's!

PRR NY Harbor map s-l1600 [1)

The other is framed picture of this 0-6-0 (below) which was described as #836. The cab # is very faint, but it does indeed look like #836. The tender is lettered Pennsylvania Lines.  However, under the cab window and under more scrutiny, there seemed to be another number in front of the 836. Upon doing some eye squinting and using magnifying glasses, it looked like a "1," but I believe it is a 7, making the number "7836." Class B29, #7836 was build by Pittsburgh Locomotive Works with 51 inch drivers in 1906 for the Pittsburgh, Youngstown & Ashtabula Railroad, a subsidiary of the Pennsylvania Railroad's "Lines West" operations. The Pennsylvania Lines West (Pennsylvania Lines was the shortened name) organization were so called for PRR operations west of Erie and Pittsburgh before 1920.

The locomotive was renumbered in 1907 as #9007, so the picture appears to have been taken either in 1906 or 1907.

Speaking of Pittsburgh Locomotive Works, one of the co-founders was Andrew Carnegie.  The shop buildings were just recently starting to get demolished:

We're off to another good start thanks to Tom ably filling in for Rich.

Andy it's nice to see that a scale modeler has room for basic K-line.

Coach Joe I usually just do what I like. As far as room I really have none. I live in Manhattan where space is a premium. My personal layout is on the top shelf of a bookshelf it is 3 rail. It is why almost all of my 3 rail pics look the same. The NYSME layout in NJ is where I can actually run anything of substance. I am considering what would be involved in the switch to 2 rail at home and maybe even using the 2 rail stuff to fund the 3 rail replacement.

The 2rail scale thing to me is realativly new. These pics I am posting are also from my wayback machine. The subway themed shot is from my layout in my old Apartment that I has been gone almost 4 years now.

Congratulations JHZ563. Wonderful.

Have a good one.

Tom,

Your New York City area harbor map, steam engine photograph and drawing are great finds!

Two Sunday's ago, my wife and I had lunch at the Steaming Tender Restaurant in Palmer, Massachusetts. The restaurant is located alongside the tracks of the former Boston & Albany Railroad and occupies a station built in 1884. A 1915 Porter 0-6-0 switcher is parked outside and our lunch was excellent.

Happy SWSat everyone.

Thanks for starting us off this week Tom. Hard to believe that so much freight used to come into NY Harbor.

Condolences once again to Rich.

Andy- we won't hold your two rail aspirations against you. Very creative use of a closet. Although...a closet in a NY apartment??????

JHZ536- Good luck! Can't pick a better Mothers Day present than that!

Melgar- nice shots of the Porter.

Coach Joe- thanks for stopping by. I'm still looking for that subway station in Farmingdale.

Over on Weekend Photo Fun this week- Johan @BAR GP7 #63 posted some shots of his BL-2 which quickly took over the thread. Lot's of BL-2 fans out there. So here's mine for SWSat also.

Have a great weekend guys.

I have that BNSF MP15. - nice engine!

Happy Switcher Saturday!! Great photos and info everyone!! Thanks Tom for getting us started today.  Keeping Rich and his family in my thoughts.

Love those BL2s!  I want to someday buy a BL1 ( demonstrator .... the only BL1 manufactured ... BL1 is basically a BL2 without m.u. capability but I'm sure everyone on this thread already know that. )

The B&O docksider was called into action this past Monday, to help out in pulling damaged to team tracks for repair after a derailment occurred on the Mountain Division of the Free State Junction Railway.   The photosIMG_6318IMG_6320IMG_6319IMG_6312IMG_6313IMG_6314IMG_6321IMG_6325IMG_6333IMG_6335IMG_6328IMG_6344IMG_6348IMG_6340 show the 0-4-0 and damaged car at Danlillu siding at Danlillue crossing.

No pics today,  If every thing works out right I will introduce you guys to my new daughter by the end of the weekend.

Looks like no baby yet folks.  Birth mother had contractions for over 24 hours but no dice yet.  She was discharged,  every body is healthy.

Thanks for the support

Thanks Tom!  It is an MTH and it does smoke quite well actually.  To get it to produce  a good steady plume of smoke, it needs about 16 volts of track power.  I didn't fire it up for these photos, however, with your mentioning of smoke, I'm regretting not doing so.  Certainly would have made for more convincing realism.  I guess one could say the engineer is running a clean stack on the day of the shoot.

Thanks for letting me know. Watch out for those derailments!

Wow this has been one terrific Switcher Saturday.  Leave it to Brian to come up with an entire album of switcher photos.  I really like that 50s styling on that GM EMD switcher.  I really wish someone would make that one., Although if they did it would probably cost more than I could afford.

Johan that shot of your BAR BL2 looks so realistic.  Again great modelling skills meet great photographic skills.

JHZ563, Good Luck and keep us posted.

Frank M, I'm awestruck as usual whenever I see pics of your layout.

Patrick your maintenance crew has done a bong up job getting that hopper ready to moe to the car shop.

Tom, it looks like that article is about 8 yrs old. Google-Earthing it, the writer of that article got it right - where the Pittsburgh Locomotive Works used to be, the area is now a parking lot and storage area for large spools of wire, transformers, etc.

Oh, the humanity!!!!
