Hello all , 

 I started the first of a few Niagara's I have here for repair. The job went very well, the gears and driveshaft performed great. The brass gears slipped in nice and easy , the driveshaft has to be cut to size and put together. I think it could now pull anything including the kitchen sink lol.  

I put 4  21 inch passenger cars behind it along with 31 freight cars, it could have pulled even more. If it wasn't for the tires slipping.

Alex; Great minds think alike I guess; I changed out the gears in my CCII Niagara yesterday afternoon. Didn't think it was too bad a job. I didn't have any new universals on hand, so that upgrade is down the road, but at least it's above the lower boiler pan.

Kudos to Ajin in Korea for designing a gearbox you don't have to remove the driver set to access the internals.

Yes changing the gears themselves isn't too bad , just that most of the engine has to come apart to get to them. As for the driveshaft that is a bit more involved, if you should need any assistance in the future just let me know. I'll be glad to guide you in the right direction.

Hi Guys,

Thank you for your nice comments, but thank you's also need to go to Pete (Norton), Mike R, and Kevin for their input.

Laz and George here's some photos of what i used to make the driveshaft, all parts were purchased from ebay. I'm pretty sure these parts are used for RC cars.

it's also funny to watch a steam engine run around naked, like your dog when he/she has no collar on.

 It could have pulled more than it was pulling, the only issue was the wheels started to slip on the rails. I didn't put the shell back on yet, this engine is getting a ERR cruise M installed, as soon as i receive the parts.
