Just looking for your guys thoughts on the choo choo barn getting rid of their live aquarium on the layout!

It's too bad. In my opinion, the live fish tank really made the layout seem more alive than it already was.
Nice but it requires attention and maintenance. Also fish replacement and food cost money. Remember all the years the Choo-Choo Barn stood alone. Things are different now.
While it was a neat feature, it causes a lot of headaches as far as upkeep and maintenance. Plus moisture around the layout is never a good thing. I can understand why they want to eliminate it.
You guys should all like and follow Choo Choo Barn on Facebook. Tom's team are posting updates nearly every day and while the live aquarium they had is gone, it looks like something bigger is going in. You'll be the first to know what it is if you follow along on FB. I have a hint from Tom, but I'm sworn to secrecy.
Toy trains and water: a bad combination!!

Yes, I agree, at least on a home layout. Water needs to circulate on a daily basis or it stagnates and starts to smell to high heaven. The creeks, fountains, ponds, etc. on the Choo Choo Barn are run every day until we close for the season and then they are emptied and cleaned with chlorine bleach. We used to use fiberglass boat resin over plaster for our creeks, etc. but as soon as there was no water, the resin would dry out and crack, thus making for a very stressful season start-up. After I started using PC-7, a one-to-one Epoxy, any leaks are due to my negligence or slip-shod workmanship (otherwise known as "I'm running out of time, open day is right around the corner!"). As JOHN D. posted above, follow the Choo Choo Barn's FaceBook page to see how I do it.
Oh, BTW, NSRAILFAN100, can you change the topic to read "Thoughts on the Choo Choo Barn Aquarium"?

Sorry Tom, I didn't realize it only said "Choo Barn"!
If you haven't seen it yet, Tom's put in a giant pond to replace the fish tank!! He's posted all kinds of videos and pictures on the Choo Choo Barn Facebook page.
