I know that this is a topic for Real Trains but since I want to adapt it for my layout I will post it here. I have three flatcars that hold two pup trailers each and one flatcar that holds a single trailer. All of these flatcars have the fifth wheel assembly mounted on the deck of the flatcar. My question is how do you load or unload these flatcars with the fifth wheel assembly attached to the flatcar? I am assuming that the fifth wheel assembly is permanently attached to the flatcar. Was there a trick to the fifth wheel or did they use a crane to load/unload the trailer? I thank all of you in advance for your help.

In a prior life I worked in the trucking industry and picked up the pigs as we called them. The fifth wheel folded down into the flat car and the trailers were pulled off by a yard tractor down a ramp. The fifth wheels and the chokes on your flat cars can be removed and the trailers can sit on their landing gear. I am putting such a piggy back yard on my layout and that is what I am going to do and scratch build a ramp to drive them off.
