The last week or two I've noticed a few "too good to be true" prices for LionChief items on ebay, all shipping "from China".

My guess is that either the items "fell off the truck" there in China or are fakes.

To see some examples, go to the bay and search for "lionel LionChief" (without quotes) and scroll down, you'll see some items noted with "from China".

I also noticed while the listings look very much the same, they seem to be listed from accounts who have very little history and only one (or a few) items up for sale, with names such as linxintao2586 & guoyujun3890.  Shipping costs seem low but the shipping time is quite long.

Fakes or stolen or ?

Caveat Emptor

RickO:  I can remember standing next to a '71 Corvette, in a very scary, similar situation.  But, no one snapped a picture of me or it.  Seems a wire short-circuited, caused a spark onto the leaky Holley four-barrel, and up in smoke she went.

Here's the link to one of them that triggered my concern:  total $93 ($76 + $17 shipping) for a Polar Express Remote Set w/ LionChief Remote & Railsounds

Right now there is a "Lionel 6-30183 2-4-2 LionChief Remote Control Scout" set which is sitting at $11 + $20 shipping, auction ends in 12 hours, we'll see where it ends up.

They just seem "off" to me and I was wondering what kind of scam this might be, if one?

I also see some sneaky ads from some dealers that are selling just the remote and not really making that clear!  Don't know how that works...

I wonder if they've got any Legacy #990 sets?

Send info to Lionel.  Let them deal with it.  Clearly smells.  2 Lionel sets, 2 Bachmann sets and one Scenic Woodlands building being offered by this seller.  With no rating.

I am not interested in this, but if anyone is, I would double check your coverage as buyer under paypal.  This is a question that you need to know answer to:  how long after purchase can you dispute the item?  If there are a certain number of days that paypal affords the purchaser, and the delivery of this item bumps up against that number of days, that may be a strategy tactic by the seller.  Not particularly saying it is with the seller, just something to know for any seller where purchase date and delivery date are separated by nearly 2 months.

I would probably stay away from these sets.  A couple of years ago, I bought a set, and in the item location line, it stated “ships worldwide”.  It was a deal, so I jumped on it.  However, the seller somehow hacked my PayPal account (which is supposed to be a more “secure” way of paying (sarcasm)) and used my account to funnel thousands of dollars into the US before PayPal could disable my account.  Long story short, it took months to get things squared away with my bank, PayPal, and government authorities.
