What center to center track clearance is required for mth premier big boys? This track will be straight sections only and used for storage and does not require curve radius clearance. I am using a Ross #170 4 way switch for this storage area and they are 3 1/2 inch centers.
Will 3. 1/2 inch center to center be sufficient?

Yes.
Straight line is no problem, it's curves where the Big Boy will get you into big trouble! 
My VL-BB greets things on the opposing tracks that are spaced 5" apart on O72 curves. For a straight track, the Big Boy won't take any more room than most other large steamers.
