Oh Boy!!!! More 'I hate the Lone Ranger movie' thread.  I hope if you comment on this video you look at it as great model railroading....which is really what it is! I think it's cool they made real model trains and didn't just CGI the whole thing. The train stuff was great fun.....and looked pretty cool. Some of the stuff was wrong vs prototype.....kinda like a model!!

Thanks for posting....I had not seen that one yet!

There's a lot of good (,& hopefully accurate,) information regarding these, and other questions on this Wikipedia page .

Edit:  The link doesn't seem to work for some reason, but you can find it via a search for 'Lone ranger film' or by entering:-

directly into your browser. (Without the quote marks of course.)

Thanks for sharing the initial link that showed the behind the scenes train work and action for the Lone Ranger movie.

The movie did have a much worse than expected box office success in the US - ref the $89 Million that Allan mentioned.  It also grossed just over an additional $170 Million at the box office internationally, so it came close to breaking even.  However, Johnny Depp movies aren't expected to break even.

Taken for what it was, it was a cool movie to watch, with some great train footage (appreciated better now that I have watched the behind the scenes clip).

Profit......That's kinda like asking 'how much to cut down a tree' varies greatly...no two alike. If you look at USA box office....NO. Add the worldwide box office....close to it. Then the PPV, DVD, BR and On Demand Yes for sure. But even if these numbers didn't add up a film makes money one way or the other....via tax credits, write offs, work credits etc etc etc. The industry has pushed laws that pretty much guarantee no one involved will loose their life savings or film company.....so why we use box office  as a measure of success I am not sure.  It made money...so it must be good right???

Some big profit films are horrible! So it boils down to did you like it yes or no.

I have family in the film business and I hate the constant ratings based on $$$$$$.

Want to see a good film that was a box office flop??? See Angels Perch.....takes place at Cass WV so there are trains...and a very well done film, important film, that made little money....but a success in my book.
