Train stores areound the Michigan Ave area in Chicago?

In about 2 weeks I will be headed out to Chicago to visit family and wanted to know if there were any train stores with Lionel history or a must see. I will be staying at the Allerton Hotel (where I had my wedding reception 10 years ago) which I think is near the orange line.

Sorry, there are no train stores in down town, i.e. the loop area of, Chicago.

It's been years since there was any model train outlet near the Mag Mile or in the Loop. However see this thread for suggestions where to go if you can venture farther afield: https://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/topic/chicago-il-trip

You might want to try this store. I was there some years back while on a work assignment and had a free Sat, nice staff all scales

Visiting Chicagoland?

Des Plaines Hobbies is located 3 1/2 miles north of O Hare International Airport at 1524 Lee/Mannheim (US 12-45). Pace buses conveniently run north and south on Lee/Mannheim from O Hare and the Des Plaines Metra station (1 mile north). For drivers, there is parking for a couple hundred cars out front and on the right side of the store. After 25 years we recently moved to the south side of the Jewel food store and are now located under the red awning. Come see our new store. ADA restroom available. Coffee is usually hot, if not, ask and we will put a pot on.

Store hours are:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

Thursday (late hours) 10:00 to 8:00 pm

Saturday 9:30 to 5:00 pm

Sunday 11:00 to 5:00 pm
