Transient Voltage | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

Considering that the track has 22Vac and the isolated section triggers a 12Vdc or lower voltage transformer powered accessory, is there a need to protect the accessory and or trains from transient voltages? My railroad runs exclusively with DCS. My powered units are MTH Rail King with PS 2 & PS3, conventional running Western Hobbycraft trolley cars and a Lionel 153 tinplate engine.

Well, if you run any Lionel command equipped stuff, I'd first lower that track voltage to 18 volts!

It can't hurt to connect a TVS diode between the center and outside rails on each side of the insulated rail break.
