Hi,

I have a Samhongsa  Virginian Triplex that I have recently refurbished ,and it now running great. What I need to know is ,what type of caboose would have been used during its lifetime from about 1914 to 1920/s.

My immediate thought was a 4 wheeled bobber. However research shows that the VR did not get any bobbers until the late 1940's!! .And they were steel rather than wood construction. WOW that was a surprise, as I thought that bobbers were generally replaced by twin truck types of various styles and construction .

anyone got any definite  proof of types.

Thanks guys

Geoff D

Wooden Class C-1 VGN caboose, for sure.  #64 is preserved at Lynchburg VA's Riverside Park.  I've seen pictures with a couple of these cabooses trailing two Class AEs (2-10-10-2s) that were pushing monster coal trains up over Clark's Gap, which ran in the same era of the triplex, pre-electrification.  The C-1s (along with their steel counterparts from the late 1940s the C-10s) were used all the way until the N & W merger and even beyond IIRC.

Check with Brother Love -- he made me a beautiful pair of C-1s several years back.
