Had a great conversation with Dougs mom and saw how much she enjoyed it too even though his dad mention she did put a kabash on an extension into the adjacent room.

One other impressive thing is the brewery made by Alex Malliae. How dumb of me not to take a photo even though it hadn't been placed yet on the layout.

Layout in the Living Room.  Clearly excellent priorities in that family!

Reminds me of a few years ago while at O Scale West and doing the big layout tour I opened the front door into the living room of the host house (it opened outward, first sign I was in for something special) and -- wa la!!  -- a trestle across the doorway at about 4 feet off the floor.  I ducked under and -- wow -- the layout went around the living room walls, into the dining room/kitchen then out into the double car garage and back into the house.  You had to duck under the layout to go from one room to the next; living room, bathroom, bedrooms, dining area/kitchen and garage.  He was single by the way.  The home was in the Bay Area of course where real estate is expensive.  I asked him what was next and he said his long term goal was to move to South Dakota where real estate was cheap and to buy a really big house and fill it with a really big layout.  I asked him if he planned to stay single.

The late Bob Roach had his O scale 2-rail layout in the two front rooms of his house up in the bay area. Many California houses have a living room and den, but most people seem to congregate in the Den and the living room is almost unused. Seems like a perfect location for a train layout, especially if you normally enter the house from the side door rather than the front.
