Love this picture from Patrick's RR.  Thought it was worth a re-post.  Too bad you can't see the hobo hotel just around the corner.  It is one cool accessory with harmonica music.  When I was there in December I heard the music and couldn't believe it was coming from there.  The Hobo's are floating in the water tower on little rafts.  Nice accessory.

The model is a MTH country house with an added side porch left over from a previous project. The three dormers are from Ameritown Dream house kits and the stone foundation is flexible stone wall from Chooch Enterprises. The mullions were removed from the windows. The building has been repainted the in way it was common in the 1950s.

Scott Thanks again for getting us started of the weekend photo fun.

More progress on yhr 15' wall section of our layout. In this area we will have a Grain Mill and Storage complex, Power Plant Complex, and a Coal mine complex. The Power Plant is pretty well done and we are working on the coal mine area. Alan Graziano is working on the upper level support systems for the coal mine. Alan has fabricated the small boiler house with water treatment tanks and aux fuel supply tanks.

Finally pulled the trigger on a set of the “Fleet of Modernism” passenger cars.  I was persuaded by MTH’s most recent release including the observation car named “Juniata Narrows.”

The build date on my colorful Burlington refrigerator car is November, 1961.  That’s a 1931 Chevrolet truck pictured with it.  In 1960, there were still a few old clunkers on the street where I grew up.  However, they weren’t as common as my photo would have you believe.  The guy across the street had a 1930 Ford Model A coupe with the trunk lid removed and a wood box inserted to make it into a pickup.  There was also a white 1938 Dodge coupe and a dark green 1939 Chevy coupe.  Lastly, my wheels, a 1934 Plymouth coupe which I had paid $25 for.  Have a great weekend, Jim

That is a very nice job! It really turned out well and makes me want to make one similar for my layout, thanks for sharing.

I am new to this forum so I will give this a shot. If it don't work will someone let me know what I need to do?

 Tks,

Okay I did a cut and past from Shutterfly on the first picture, it looks okay and a attachment on the other two. I see why the first attachment did not post, but why is the attachment picture distorted?

Thanks, Kev

I completed a refurbishment of a Lionel post war turbine shell this week.I was able to keep the vast majority of the original paint. Its for sale if anyone needs one. Free shipping!

Before:
The shell had some kind of glue stuck to the ladder, and red sparkly stuff stuck to the boiler. No chemical paint stripping, media blasting, etc., was employed. I wanted to save as much of the old paint as possible.

After:

The lighting makes the paint look much flatter than it really is. I may take new photos with better lighting. It has the same perfect post war Lionel sheen as the 726 in the background. In this photo, you can see that sheen towards the front of the shell, where the light wasn't as harsh.

From Christmas layout to Basement Carpet Central all in a month or so!  Some great shots and great layouts!  Looks like the easier posting is making this weekly thread pretty popular!  My Carpet Central is in such bad shape financially they had to get an old tired E6 Atlantic to pull those shiny new PRR passenger cars!

Seeing Double!

Just purchased a K-Line Collector Club CSX SD70MAC off the bay to go along with my existing SD70MAC.  These are the engines from which K-Line took the pre-orders (and money) and Lionel ended up delivering as part of their liquidation of the K-Line stock.  My two are conventional scale size engines.  I got the second engine because I want to double-head them to run a string of 15 die-cast Atlas Gundersons.  Of course, I will need to (when time permits) renumber one of the engines.

This is my first try at the weekend photo fun thread, but here goes. Still still not finished, but I'm currently on my long week at work which means no play for me.

Many thanks to the forum members who has given me tons of advice on how to proceed with each new step. Until this building, I had not ventured into adding extras beyond the paint.

Hope all of you have a great weekend.

Wow, that's a great looking station.  I would like to see more of your layout too!

I will try to put more layout shots on soon.  This was my first attempt on the new forum.  Thanks for looking,

This hole in the wall would become a passenger terminal, with building fronts to cover up the mess.

I kitbashed a passenger station using two platicville airplane hangers and an HO powerplant. I still have to finish the right side along the wall. Not sure what I will do there. There are industrial sidings on the lower level, so I will have to blend industrial, the passenger station and maybe smaller scale housiing or buildings etc in HO and N scale.

The platform is a standard covered platform extension, with a few additional uncovered sections made from foam food platters, carved with a hot foam knife tool to match the sidewalk markings. I couldn't find the disney station, which would have made a great clock tower addition

Dave - Those Disney train stations show up on the bay from time to time - they are listed as HO but they're not.... You could probably get them one at a time - ship them all to me and then I can box them up and ship them your way in one shipment.....

I would like to see more pictures of that scratch built version out of seven kits..... Very cool.... we have, well, one in the box to start with.....

Chris,

I do not know why, but most pictures do appear to be elongated in the verticle direct, or squeezed  a bit horizontally when they are displayed with this new format. However, if you click on the image, it will open correctly proportioned.

Thanks, Chris.  But while this does the trick, it makes no sense to me to have all pictures be distorted and require another step to get them right.  Surely that can be remedied (at least I hope).

Yes, I am.  I didn't see the thread but have downloaded Firefox, and using that browser seems to fix the distortion problem. Thanks, Ron.

However, I still have pictures that are squeezed into a third of the screen and have a white column taking up at least 25% of the screen on the right-hand side.  Is there a fix for this?  (And my apologies to all for inserting these questions into this thread, but the photo threads are my favorite and this new format really hurts them.)

Dave...Thanks for the compliment!  The Disney stations come up on E-bay fairly often but lately they have been a little on the high side dollar wise.  They were issued as an HO model but they are almost exactly O scale being somewhat artistically altered from the prototype.  When I started buying them five years ago you could get all you wanted for around $25.00 to $30.00.  Several dealers blew them out for around $10.00 as some that I got from the bay were marked as such.  By the time I got around to getting enough of them to build what I wanted, the price had risen to around $60.00 to $80.00.  Now they seem to be going for well over $100.00.  I think if you use our WTB forum, you may find some kind folks that would be willing to sell at a fair price.....  You never know when Disney may re-introduce them but I didn't want to wait and I wanted a station that had more of a 19th to very early 20th century detailed architectural look....something like the Grand Central prior to the current terminal.  The kit has a wealth of details and the colors are very nice.  I still haven't gotten around to glazing the windows but I will get back to the passenger facilities real soon as I am about to go back over the layout and start more detailing and scenery.  Here are some more pictures.....

Thanks,

Alan

I'm using Google Chrome (Firefox has gotten rather bloated and slow recently, and besides, you can play Angry Birds inside Chrome as an app ). While the photos are normally proportioned, they're still not centered within the posts.

I think the forum software means to treat them as thumbnails--you can click on the photo and it comes up full-size while the forum dims into the background (although that makes the thumbnail box along the bottom redundant).

I also have the whitespace on the right-hand side. That's the column where the ads, recent posts and the "who's online" box are located. Since they don't run all the way down the page, there is an empty space below where those page elements end.

I'm not quite sure what you may mean by "compressed," but I don't see that happening with my computer.

Can you provide a specific example that I can look at?

They are squeezed, side to side. If you click on the image it uploads in normal proportions...most times.

Too cold to go walking in the woods today, so Ill work on a few projects.

Heres a pre war standard gauge American Flyer Shasta loco Im cleaning up. I rid the shell of 80 years worth of dirt and grime, and got the motor running for the first time in decades. Just waiting for a few backordered parts to arrive, and I can finally send this old gal home.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/jaabat/Trains%202/DSC01601.jpg

The station seen below was built in the very earliest days of our layout, when I was leaning towards a tin plate/toy look. My then 4 year old daughter and I built it from a scrap piece of wood. It has too much sentimental value for me to alter it or put it away under the layout. Instead, Ill begin construction of a new station, and place this one in a place of honor right above my work bench.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/jaabat/Trains%202/DSC01602.jpg

Now begins the process of scratch building a new station to fill the same footprint as the old one.

Ben(Bluelinec4) from the NJ Hiraiilers got me started on this project with his suggestions. Jeff Sohn did his magic on the original MTH CN engines.

I have included the inspritation art work that Frank Swaffort did to help create these engines.

I love the colors on the engine. Jeff has done work for my dad and I and we are very pleased. Thanks again for posting.

Jumijo,

I think it is nice that you and your daugter worked in the project together. My son and I work on our layout together and I love it.

Also I loved your sign and flag poles. How did you make it?.

Hey Ken, beautiful building! The best thing about this forum, especially WPF, is that each week you see at least one picture that inspires you. I had bought about 25 little paint jars and 10 tiny brushes from Michaels a LONG TIME AGO, and there they sit unopened in the bag where I left them. Now I actually feel like picking up a paintbrush. Thanks everyone for posting!

Boilermaker;

I have 2 of those Tamiya 1/48 2.5 Ton Cloth top Truck kits sitting here awaiting motivation to build them, You have helped a lot, those look great.

What Flatcars doe you use for them? I've been gathering odd ones, but feel I may have to fix them up a bit to look more like wood tops.

Once again, Thanks to Scott for starting the thread, and thanks to all who posted pictures. They make my weekends. I really gotta get past track on plywood so I can post some.

The flat cars are MTH 41' 50 ton. I had the flats already and needed something to put on them. Its not long enough for 2, so a single truck per car is what works. I think 2 trucks would fit on a 50' flat, but I dont have a 50 footer to test it out (I may order a weaver one just to see if they fit, if not, I'll have to get some M8s or some Jeeps to triple up on it...oh darn).  I've been on the hunt for some more armor, and I found a company called gaso.line that makes conversion kits for the standard Tamiya kit to make the 6x6 kit into other models (water tank truck, dump truck, 40mm gun platform), unfortunately, the conversions cost as much or more than the full model.

They werent hard to assemble, including paint and drying/setting time, they took about 6 hours to assemble. I want to call them and see if I can get some other truck numbers (the decal set comes with 2 truck numbers), so I can build some more.

I think my next project is going to be some M3 halftracks. Or course, with all these flat cars, sooner or later I'm going to need a steamer thats worthy of moving an armored division.... building an army train is fun, but its expensive.

Ahh, Well I have the Steam engine.  Love My Imperial RK Big Boys.

The Military train is forming up nicely.

I have a set of Patton's on Flats, I need to get some more scale flat's I guess, most of my rolling stock is Railking as are all my engines.

I also have some old MPC Flatcars, they are real short. One truck per them will fit nicely. I also have about 8 jeeps now, 2 of them with trailers. But most of them need repaint from desert camo to green.

I lucked out and got a pair of NIB K-Line Troop cars at the Amhearst show, and found a weaver troop car at the LHS Sunday.

I was looking at a thread about painting the wood tops on the flats, It would seem they can come out nice.

BTW, where do you get half tracks???  I'd like a few of those too.

Easy solution is to find Corgi 1:50 scale M3 A1s, they were done a number of years ago but you can find them on ebay (they were also made in 1:72, so make sure you get the right scale). The complex solution is a resin kit made by Kengi Models, they're expensive ($40 per), but they look like they're military diorama grade items.
