It's time for WEEKEND PHOTO FUN!!!

Last week someone brought in a G-Scale live steam locomotive to the club. We have O, HO, N, On30 and my Standard Gauge/O-Gauge layout. So where could he run his train?

How about the outer rail of one of the Standard Gauge Track and the outer rail of the O-Gauge Track.

We had a Boy Scout working on his Eagle service project at the museum; he set up a nice education room for the kids.

Let's see your pictures.

A sad day on the former Middle Division...

Signals have always been a big part of my layouts since I was a teenager. My current layout which portrays the Middle Division of the PRR is heavily signaled with position light signals, including these models of bi-directional signals installed by Conrail in the 1980's. Sadly, with the advent of Positive Train Control, these PRR style position signals are being taken out of service, and replaced by modern "Darth Vaders."

The first two photos show a pair of these signals (mounted on caissons as per the prototype) in service on my layout just west of Mattawana at MP 182:

The next photo shows a prototype signal at Horningford PA (also near Mattawana, but to the east) taken by son Steven last Saturday, March 2 on its final day of service, and yes, he drove all the way out there (3 hours!) to photograph it!

And finally, here is a picture of the same signal, the very next day, forever out of service...

Incidentally, here's a map showing the location of these signals. The model signals portray those located near the arrow at the bottom of the map, and the prototype images were taken near the arrow near the upper right corner. This area is located in central Pennsylvania.

So indeed, it is a sad day for those us who love the Middle Division, the PRR, signals, and everything Pennsy!

A couple of years ago heard they were going to do this at the NCTM.  In fact in January 2017 posted a pic of my MTH Premier "Wave" car say the future.

Have not kept up with it.  glade to see this.  Must get over there soon.

Ron

Edit:

I see it was actual February 2017 that I posted the anticipated  repaint box car being pulled by NCTM Southern E8 6900 with cabs that are at the Museum.

looks GREAT Jeff      awesome layout, like your videos !!!

Thank you Brian!

In the past I got down about the room not being big enough, the layout not being realistic enough (almost went HO, but HO didn't do it for me), but I re-calibrated my outlook and have really been enjoying my layout for over a year now.  I have gotten comfortable accepting the compromises, and realized that all layouts and scales have compromises.  Now I find myself feeling content with my layout and have not gotten bored with it at all.

A big part of the hobby for me is the Weekend Photo Fun thread.  I enjoy the weekly installments by everyone, especially by the regulars including yourself.  I find this to be a great way to share the hobby.  As to my contributions, some weeks are better than others, but I always try to come up with something to post!  They are somewhat repetitive at times, but I am fine with that!

I used to not want to post anything unless the scene was "done" but now I enjoy posting as-is pictures as well as more finished scenes, and seeing other people's progress over time as well!  Same kind of thoughts regarding videos, I like how easy it is nowadays to take a quick video on my phone and upload it directly to YouTube with the phone.  I try to do an ok job with the videos, but I don't get bogged down pursuing perfection.

Sad indeed'.  Seems the further we move ahead with technology, the further backwoods we also go loosing the real flavor and traditions of the many sentiments that we all love'... and have enjoyed, not to mention the crucial history that is not realized, recognized, and appreciated  by much of today's society'... Accidents happen'.  But if people paid more attention, and took a little more pride in their profession, they would happen less.  Not just railroads, but it appears to be in every walk of life.  When standards are constantly lowered, you eventually wind up with a ZERO'...

Fun photos for this weekend!

I'm curious - you post a ton of images of your layout each week.  do you pose them temporarily just long enough to take a new round of pictures or are these all actual permanent scenes?

I tell you;  they never catch a break in PATSBURG. Pretty neat though having all that continuous enjoyment out of the layout. Not like " it's done now, perfect, don't touch anything. Obviously Patrick enjoys photography and we all reap the benefits.
