I continue my plan to rotate and exercise all my engines to get the "cobwebs out". This week two New York Central favorites with TMCC?RS............a K-Line RS units and a Lionel scale Hudson with Scullin wheels.

Since the RS unit is hauling motly Pennsy cars, I guess you could say that it is early PennCentral......

A 2022 Christmas Layout memory .

OK, it's not trains this week or anything layout related.  But I will explain why I'm showing the tree that I set up in the winter area of the layout.

This image shows 2 areas on the tree that are train stuff.  On the top section I hung all 28 train type gifts that my brother gave to me over time, one each year.  I used to host a 'family train party' for all 28 members of my family and my brother would gift to me one of these ornaments each year.

The bottom of the tree was decorated with Lionel balls that my daughter gifted to me as a Christmas gift.

Fantastic club layout near Baton Rouge La. we visited a couple of times - all Atlas track and 'not cluttered' like most of ours tend to be with too many accessories, buildings, and the like. This one had several waterfalls, vast stretches of beautiful scenery and was about 45' x 60'.

The bottom shot is my MTH Yellowbonnet in HO with the plated sides.

My wife and I are on an amazing trip on an expedition ship cruising, out on zodiacs and hiking in Greenland. Expect to see polar bears and the Northern Lights. Here is the view from our cabin this morning:

BUT, I still have trains on my mind so here are a few of my favorite layout photos:

The Lionel Archive Wabash F-3 A-A Prototype

When originally advertised in the mid-1950’s, Lionel had a much different vison for the paint scheme on their 2240/2367 Wabash F-3’s. They were to be much more like the real loco’s with black underframe, silver trucks, white nose, long bottom and short middle white stripes and tapered upper gray area. The prototype was painted this way and had the number 2240 on one side and 2367 on the other. The actual production units had a much more bland paint scheme and the Lionel prototype went into the archives. In 2017, the prototype surfaced when Neil Young auctioned off part of his collection. The Postwar look and modern operating features with the LionChief+2.0 system.

Thanks Scott for getting us started for this fine weekend!   This weekend's photo pair are titled " Off the Beaten Path".  Have a terrific weekend everyone!

Travellers headed for Denver, CO would depart from the Texas & Pacific Union Station in Fort Worth at 2:40pm on the northbound Texas Zephyr, and at 5:00pm enjoy a Martini or an Old Fashion in this lounge as you rolled over the vast plains near Estelline, TX (circa 1957).  Fast forward to today, the good news is: The T&P Station not only survives but has been revamped into awesome condo-living.  Silver Streak now resides in Austin, TX alongside several other rescued passenger cars and being used as various food services.

I look for “junkers” at shows. I have no intention on making them “work” and to be sure, I fix the giraffe in the upright position. Despite the fact that they do not “operate”, the kids like them, all the same…..

That's great, Peter, but I suggest you have at least one operating giraffe car with the triggering mechanism because it's so entertaining to see the giraffe duck under the telltale.

I have 2 operating giraffe cars. The first one was a gift from my 30 something son, who has a great sense of humor. I also love the fact that the giraffe car says it's from the Bronx Zoo, which fits so well with the NYC 1950s baseball and trains main theme of my layout. Arnold

Yesterday we took a 1 hour train ride in Essex CT. Had a great time. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

My post is quite late this week as I had elective hand surgery this week, and wasn't feeling too great for a few days. But I perked up quite a bit today, so I wanted to post a few images I took the day before my procedure and I'm posting them since I thought they were pretty cool. Here is the eastbound Broadway Limited in the early 1950's. Motive power are Lionel PA's, and I personally think these are the best looking engines Lionel has ever produced. I may repost these next week with more info since its hard to type with one finger!

Peter, what are you using for roadbed?  I remember you sprayed it with the stone textured spray paint but I don't remember the material.

Walt, is that a Lenox ornament dead center?  It looks like one that I have.

Stangtrain, my daughter was stationed at Thule Air Force Base in NW Greenland, north of the Arctic Circle.

It’s a great place. I had a great experience running one of their locomotives with the Hand on the Throttle program.

The Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club in Washington State hosted a swap meet and had a large modular O Gauge layout on display.
Decided to join the club - always been a model railroading loner, so we'll see where this leads!

Lots of cool stuff to see and for sale, O, HO, N, and Z.  Took a few photos and bought a MTH crossing gate set for $23.

I have everything in storage right now but if memory serves me well, it's something about toys for kids.  But back when I got it I was buying a lot of train related things so it might not be anything special. If I remember, when I get things out again when I start on this year's Christmas Layout, I will make sure to look and get back to you.

BTW: that was something that I bought, not one that was a gift from my brother.  It just fit will all the train ornaments.

Here is a picture of one of the three new bracket signals that we installed on my layout.  It will protect the East end of the Bristol passing siding on my Milwaukee Road branchline.   We don't have the Atlas Signal board clusters built yet to light and control it'

The next picture is looking the opposite direction and you can see the double-headed mast signal that will protect the turnout.  The base needs to be completed and scenery applied yet.

Things are progressing nicely over all.  We didn't get to have a work session this weekend due to participating in the first operating session with our team member David of his Cincinnati Union Terminal layout.

I found a picture taken of it back then.  "then" was June, 2002.  In case the writing isn't legible it says I bought it from Lenox but it was a fund raiser for some rescue group in Calif.

If I didn't know better, I'd say these photos were taken trackside in the real world!!  Spectacular!!  Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Walt while I see it is Lenox up close I see it is much different than mine.  Mine is flatter with  a Lenox china boiler and cab overlaid on gold tone wheels and smoke coming from the stack.

Thanks John. I did recently complete replacing all of the room lighting, so I'm sure that helps with photography. As far as more hand surgery, I think I'll  pass. I can barely type this response!
