Been having trouble with the smoke unit on my Lionel Legacy Western Maryland F7-AA (#240 & #236) diesel set (6-34689). Train would stop and cab lights blink every time I turned smoke on, so decided to replace the motor, which I ordered from Lionel for $7.50 plus s&h.WM - Shell OffWM - Plug PulledWM - Board OffWM - Impeller offWM - Motor Out

Watched the youtube video first (thanks for posting) and everything was pretty straightforward. Took about 40 minutes and that was going very slowly and taking pictures as I went along to post here. Train runs great now with good smoke.

Couple of tips - 1. It's pretty easy to check the motor first to see if it's spinning. Once the shell is off, there's a small hole in the board above where the motor sits and you can see the impeller, so place it on a test track or regular track and power everything up and you can see if it spins and stops while adding smoke from the controller.  If it spins and stops then your smoke problem is probably elsewhere. 2. Be careful when you remove the impeller (don't ask me how I know). Mine was a press fit on the motor shaft. I slowly pried it up every 90 degrees, but when it let go it popped off and flew across the room onto my layout - I was lucky to find it amongst all the scenery. 3. After finishing, make sure you check the alignment of the smoke fluid snorkel input holes on the unit with the holes in the top of the shell. Mine were way off and could have led to fluid getting inside the motor.

That's about it - this should be within the scope of most model railroaders and I'd recommend doing it if you have this kind of issue.
