Finally got around to actually placing my order. Amtrak A and B. I think tomorrow I will update it to include a second A and perhaps an unpowered B. Now I just need to find a train for them to pull.

The first Amtrak train I ever rode as a kid, the Empire Builder in 1974, was powered by these units. I remember them distinctly. They would become the only F7s I ever witnessed in non-tourist/museum, real life operation. Seemed fitting to add to my collection.

Just ordered a Santa Fe F7 #45C Phase I (Early) 3RL TMCC A-unit today now that I finally have room in the budget to purchase one! I can't wait until it arrives later this year (Q4 2015).

EDIT (4/7): Thanks to crunching the numbers and making adjustments to my budget, I was also able to put down a order for a Santa Fe F7 #37C Phase I (Early) 3RL TMCC Unpowered A-unit today prior to the April 8th deadline. Now I will have two fantastic Santa Fe warbonnets in my roster that should look absolutely smashing pulling whatever passenger cars I get down the road once I get my layout going.

I ordered Rio Grande units in 2-rail.

I was thinking of getting the cheaper MTH units, but they have significant deficiencies, including that aweful tether.  The 3rd rail are a lot more investment, especially when you consider the pre-order discount.

If money were no object, I would have Key.  Unfortunately I have to draw the line somewhere...

I join Johnny as one of the apparent few in the minority Amtrak camp. Finally got around to moving my order from Atlas to Steve for two powered As and two Bs, one powered and one unpowered. Hopefully the effort involved in ordering, canceling and then re-ordering was not an exercise in futility.

Paid for Rio Grande ABBA #5581, 5582, 5583 & 5584; 3 powered, one dummy last month.  (I hope the dummy isn't me.  My Atlas O Trainman Santa Fe U23B #6330 lost sound, and the Santa Fe #6324 crackles.

Paid for Amtrak ABA #102, 153, 105; 2 powered A units and B Dummy. The engines are for my 32 Amtrak and California Zephyr passenger cars I detailed with painted tan seats, tables with white cloths, and Preiser seated People.  I hope the sound works.  I would be nice to buy some trains this year that don't have to go back for service the first week.

Yes John, your CZ cars are very impressive and you've done a beautiful job on them. When I was a kid my dad and uncle rented the Silver Solarium and we took it from St Paul to Colorado Springs. We always talk about having a movie made about that trip, National Lampoons Trian Trip as there were 13 kids between 17 and 3 on that trip and soooo many funny things happened. Ive got an unlettered dome obs car just so I can model all the scenes that we all laugh about on that trip
