Well, it's going to annoy my painter, but I went up to our 3rd floor layout room and put about 8 Post-Its on all the gaps in the woodwork that need to be caulked or filled before I consider the job to be complete. He thought he had 2 days left to finish, but I think he has 3.
My thinking is, he'll be annoyed for a day or so, but I'll have to look at all the gaps and blemishes for the rest of my life. I opted for him to be annoyed for a day and to get the cracks filled.
In his defense, he's working on space with portions that were last semi-finished in the 1930s or which has never been touched since the house was constructed in the 1870s. There are large stretches of wood that have never been painted before. When you put primer on them for the first time in 140 years, you can almost hear H. Ross Perot's famous sucking sound....
I also measured for attic ventilation fans for the summer months and cut some baseboard molding to finish the job finishing. After the painter is finished, I start building.
I also drove a mile through the snow to the picture framer and picked up some items I had framed for the train room walls. Mostly, however, I paused now and again to look at the snow piling up outside. It's really coming down hard today.
