          Thanks for your interest. The streets on the layout start with 3/16" Masonite or hardboard. For the downtown and roadway portions, I cut the roads to the desired width and length, secure with a dab of silicone caulk and place a couple of weights on top until cured.  I painted the road with flat latex paint from Lowes, the color is called Knights armor, Olympic # D58-5, When dry I scuff(lightly) with a fine scotch brite pad or similar. Iuse a fine white and yellow paint pen to draw the lines,( use a straight edge and/or make a paper pattern for neat work). then use artists chalks, dark grey, light grey, black, and brown to simulate grease, wear , roadgrime etc... rub it into the surface with your fingers to achieve a realistic road surface!
