What Road Names Would You Like To See For Menards Engines

When, if, they offer some small steamers, l will be interested.  Certainly the market can stand it.  They could have as much success with those, as with their buildings

Amtrak, Union Pacific, and Canadian Pacific.

I'd be in for CN and CP.

Considering its not an F7  But an FP7 (passenger engine)  I would love to see on in Milwaukee Road  Armor yellow o match up with the UP colors. and the last used on the MR before Amtrack

PRR and U.S. Steel. I bought the first two beta test engines, they are ok for the price.  I wont buy anymore as long as there are plastic gears. My recommendations to Menards were metal gears, even if they cost a little more, and an option for a smoke unit, maybe they could make it so we could do it ourselves.

I thought Santa Fe was a good choice for their first go round.  I do not expect Menards to ever produce my favorite road name, Western Maryland; but my second choice is B&O.  That's a railroad that has a good size following.  I could see them producing N&W, PRR, CN, CP also. 

C&NW, Rock Island, Milwaukee.

Bessemer and Lake Erie, Baltimore and Ohio, Chessie, Pennsylvania, and Penn Central. I won't be buying any but I will gladly recommend what to build.

The Bessemer is a good one, Jim!  Orange with the wide black stripe on each side.

For those you that saw the Rocket Dinner, I commingled the dinner with a Santa Fe engine to create a Rock Island Rocket. Being as the dinner had a couple of the fans repurposed for the smoke unit, I cut some off the Santa Fe and moved them to the Rocket. Also there was a hole on one side for the harness to light the sign. I cut a section out of the Santa Fe and inserted it into the Rocket.

How about one that does not require 10 minutes notice and sold out in minutes limited numbers.   Not a fan of the b.s.

I agree with those Jim! I'd also add in Csx and in my opinion you'd satisfy a lot of people with New York Central lines.

Now my "fantasy probably ain't gonna happen request" would be a Wheeling Lake Erie Diesel. I can't find a nicely priced one for the life of me.

An F3, particularly in Santa Fe livery, was perhaps a safe and logical choice for Menards given that the Lionel Santa Fe F3 is probably the most popular and famous O gauge train of all time.  That being said, I would hope that if this project goes forward that the F3 mechanicals and platform (the “guts” in other words) could be quickly adapted to a more modern design in  current road, because kids will generally relate to something more as a toy if it is something they see in real life.  And given the price point of these trains, that would seem to me to be a better long term strategy rather than selling baby boomers another version of something they already have.  Bruder, the German manufacturer of toy trucks, provides a decent roadmap of how to sell realistic, high quality toys (that carry a higher price than normal toys - and make no mistake this Menards product will still have a premium price relative to most toys) through normal retail channels.  If I were Menards, I would be looking there for an example of how traditional toys can compete with screens.

I’d consider getting one if they did them in PRR Tuscan Red. Though, there’s a bit of irony here in that the only reason to get an FP7 would be to run them with a passenger consist, but it would be unlikely that the paint would match any of the PRR streamliners made to date.

Assuming the metal gear issue is resolved (properly), I would be game for a Sante Fe blackbonnet and also the LIRR.  One can dream.  Alaska would be another improbable but desirable roadname.

Since, historically, all model train makers pick the biggies, assuming that will be where most of their market is located, for us in the South, to only have western and northern options has always been an issue.  How about C of G,  ACL,  SAL, Southern to start?  I would say the FEC but since it is the only Class 1 that does not go outside of state lines, that market might be small.  Not a fan of SCL or NS in older loco styles though, but that's just me.  ACL and FEC would allow some really nice color.

Except as has been stated here before, this isn’t an F7. It’s an FP9 (without the notable louvers), which is longer than an F7. Menards stopped calling the locomotive anything besides Santa Fe diesel for recent releases but will eventually have to address what model it is.

I want a Milwaukee Road unit. The railroad had FP7 units, which would be a close match to this FP9.
