I believe it's actually called Railroad Gothic.

ATF Railroad Gothic from the American Type Founders Collection. This is one of the oldest type companies. Being one of the oldest, I believe this could be it because this style has been used by the railroads for years. Below is a link to download this font from ATF

Also this font is in the San Serif Family of Fonts. Fonts like "Arial Bold" and "Helvetica Bold" can be found on most computers. These two fonts would be close.
