Original AF 3200 series freight cars are easy to find. Rather, I'd like to see the passenger set (the "Ambassador") with the 3800 series cars, a "tougher" find, reproduced.

For those of us that started in standard gauge tinplate trains long after they were released: the 400e Christmas engine with matching cars, the Christmas switch tower, and the Monorail set all wth updated protosound! Tooling and fooling with Standard tinplate makes me just as excited as when I was young and saw a huge Tyco set under the Christmas tree!
I wonder if "restored" is the problem. Someone has been listing the Dorfan restorations over & over also. Tempting, but spent too much on std gauge already this year.

In my conversation on the phone today, I think there's an excellent chance of seeing at least one of the items on your list in the near future.

 

Doubt it's the monorail.  I asked Mike about it.  He was surprised about the rising value of it in the secondary market, and that the tooling had been misplaced.  Let's hope I'm wrong!  I'd be one of the first to order one if he cataloged it again!  

 

I'd like to see a #5, with tender, or without, with PS/3.

 

Once again, I don't think LCT will be producing anything not Lionel or American Flyer.

I think maybe "restored" is the problem.  The guy has done some nice work on the AF stuff. I'm sure the starting prices are in line with the time and $ spent to do them, but they're too high for the limited demand, IMHO. If I'm patient, I can find originals in decent condition for an equal or lower price. Reminds me of the classic auto/street rod scene, where the guys who do the restorations and/or modifications always seem to lose money when they sell.
 
I also agree about the Dorfan standard gauge -- it's very tempting, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Still holding out for the originals I'd like to add to the collection.

I missed your comments on this before.  Why won't MTH (LCT) be producing some tinplate Ives or Dorfan trains?

To make the most of the Lionel agreement. Lionel still has the rights to the American Flyer and Lionel names. MTH will make the other stuff when the agreement runs out.

I'm new to the Standard Gauge world, so I'd like to see some of the Ives trains that were last reproduced by MTH Tinplate Traditions in the mid-2000's that pre-dated the MTH/Lionel licensing agreement (as well as my involvement in Standard Gauge).

 

Stuff like the IVES 3243R passenger sets and the Ives National Ltd with the red steamer and blue cars with red roofs.  Really ver classy looking sets!
