Board Members,

Looking for some input regarding topics you would like to see covered in a Lionel Instructional Video. I am asking that we not look at previous production run locomotives, such as the product videos we make. Thus far we have covered the following devices;

ZW-C

ZW-L

TPC's

Powermaster (and Bridge)

ASC

OTC

SC-2

Electric RR Mini-Commander (with an Atlas O Turntable)

Wiring for conventional AND integrating Legacy

Has everyone seen the wiring blog we did a few months back? (it was separate from the website videos) You can find it here;

http://lionelllc.wordpress.com.../wiring-your-layout/

I would really appreciate your input on helping me understand what is not necessarily common knowledge in the field (or even topics that are not explained enough). All contributions will be considered. We have some time coming in September when we can get some of these videos filmed,  edited and uploaded.

Thank you,

Mike Reagan

Lionel

Mike, I second marty on the LSU softwate and modules. Also may be a tutorial on the tmcc engine reset codes and what they do. Also the legacy light blinks and what they stand for in the diagnostics of our engines. Also maybe an overview or time line of the lionel tmcc electronics in your production engines over the years.Show the electronics in the engines with tops off.Comment on things like oddsey vrs. Oddysey two.Show and tell the distinct differences in the two.maybe show the reciver boards and talk about the different versions and how to chose them for certain upgrade or replacement applications. If this is ok and does not give away trade secrets. And a historical time line of the railsounds versions and maybe how they came to be in the lionel products. Thanks for all your videos. Keep up the hard work and keep them comming!
Mike, Troubleshooting Legacy smoke units. I was at the Windsor Me fair with the Maine Three Railers yesterday with Dana and team running new sd40-2 and sf northern. After two hours or so both stopped producing reasonable smoke. We tried adding smoke fluid which helped for a minute or so, one of the guys blew down the stacks and we just gave up. We saw the cs videos on smoke units but there was no check list do this then that...we were running tmcc and not legacy. It seems smoke units are the most problematic for all, even the newest models. We look forward to seeing you at Charlie Ro Sept 15. Rick

Mike,

I strongly support all of the things that  Lionelzwl2012  mentioned in his response to your request.  As a collector with tens of thousands invested in Lionel locomotives and rolling stock but only a few feet of operating track, I am WAY behind on the learning curve.  With retirement about a year away, I think it's about time to buy more track and open all those boxes on all of those racks behind me.  I have a LOT of catching up to do on how all of these neat gizmos work and what to do when they don't cooperate!

Best,

Dave

I second the smoke unit video,emphasize and show how much fluid to add.. Show different types up close. Explain how they produce the smoke. Demonstrate proper cleaning, batting replacement and heating resistor wattage for each type.I think newbies and pros alike would learn somthing and it would dispel all the rumors associated when people give smoke unite advice. Also a video on legacy remote proper battery charging procedures. How it should be done. Talk about the led lights and there status when charging. Show and talk about charger and remote only vrs. Legacy base charger and remote. Explain 1st run charger issuse and fix. Show proper types of batterys. This may dispel some of the rumors and get more people comfortable in turning this great feature on instead of buying reg alkaline batterys and turning it off! Thanks mike!

In the dd35 product video when before Mike fires up the locomotive Mike mentions to fill the Pipette 3/4 to the first line.

Please when you do instructional videos, go slow - step-by-step.  Also, a downloadable pdf with step-by-step instructions accompanying each video would be enormously helpful.  As it is, I find myself making notes while I'm watching the video.  Often, I miss something - having a pdf accompanying the video would be really useful.

Thanks!

I agree. Or rewrite the Legacy manual so it makes sense to us new users. I've got a degree in electrical engineering and used to work in a test lab, but your manual needs a bit of TLC.

I will say that I do enjoy the instructional videos, particularly the TPC videos.

i would like to see lionel develop a simple track layout program for all their different tracks. all the programs i have seen are way too complicated also many of them get involved in secenery. it would also be nice to give a table length and width and have the computer design different layouts.

switch tracks straight length can be 14 1/4" or 15 5/8" depending on configuration. this makes it very difficult to match lengths on the other side of the loop. to do two loops i bought about a $1000 worth of track and switches and returned about $250 worth. i bought many pieces i didn't use but there is no way to know what sizes you might need. a lionel computerized track system would not make the job easier but would sell mure track. i want to expand my system because it is very basic but its too complicated to know what size and amount of track i need.

It's called RR Track Software, about as easy as it gets.
