I just received a Lionel Santa Fe steam engine with sound of steam. The chuffing works but there is no whistle. Does this engine have a whistle? Thanks Don

The Santa Fe 8900 from 1979 only has Sound-of-Steam. Whistles didn't return until 1980.

No, That engine did not have a whistle. Sound of steam only. It was the first of a series of 5 sets called the famous American railroad series. It was made in 1979, a year before Lionel re-introduced the improved electronic whistle. Lionel still has late generation SOS and whistle boards available so it could be upgraded to have a peroid electronic whistle.
