While converting a favorite road's conventional loco to tmcc adds many additional features it does have drawbacks in terms of cost, necessity of technical expertise, time spent doing the mod, and either possibly finessing those extra boards into limited engine space or adding a tether to mount the tmcc boards and speakers somewhere else.

After pondering such considerations, I've decided the easiest, fastest path to remote control is to buy the rtr LionChief counterpoint (or twin) to my favorite road name's conventional locomotive, then  remove it's shell and replace it with the shell of my favorite road name's conventional loco. (I already have that favorite roadname's conventional loco shell.) I'll finish by selling the 3 cars, unneeded Fastrack, wall plug power supply and shell from that rtr LionChief set to recoup some of the money spent purchasing the set. After selling off those rtr set items I figure the total net cost will be slightly more than $125 - certainly significantly less money, time, and aggravation spent than if I decide on a tmcc mod.

Has anyone else tried a similar, "simpler"  approach?
