And it's not just that they are scale and look great but the main reason I like them is the long trains I can run.  This is all the cars I've converted to date, no way this could be done with those oversized couplers the cars come with. There would one or two popping open somewhere.

$4.5 pair?

Andre.

Correct, and THAT is a pretty good price! All the "New 740 series" Kadee couplers come packaged 2-Pair per clear plastic/card container. In an "emergency", I purchased two twin packs at my local hobby shop; $9.49 per pack of 2-pair. I have also purchased some at a train show, and thought $8.50 per pack of 2-pair was a great price.

Because they work

Every time I see someone say they're holding their lobster claw couplers together with rubber bands, dental bands, twist ties, etc I just scratch my noggin

The manufacturers need to come up with an adapter so folks can easily swap out the lobster claw with an adapter/Kadee combo.  As a matter of fact, that would be a great idea because it would not only eliminate the hug claw, but would allow those with tight curves to continue running trains.

Are there any old claw types that can't be replaced without drilling or cutting out a rivet or hunk of metal?

Newbie here - am thinking about Kadee conversion, but am not sure how you start.  How does one decide what type (eg, E AAR) of Kadee coupler to use and what length/offset, etc?  Do you just buy a bunch of different sizes and try them, or is there some "guide" to using which version with a specific car?

I wold be converting rolling stock (freight & psgr), but would retain the electrocouplers on locomotives.

Thanks!
