I have a couple of MTH Z4000 transformers with fluctuating output voltages.  One Z4000 fluctuates by +/- .5v( 1 volt swing) and another fluctuates by +/- 1.5V (3 volt swing).  The 3V fluctuation is very noticeable when running passenger cars with incandescent lighting.  I also have a 3rd Z4000 where there is no fluctuation with the output voltage.  All readings were taken at 18 volts output and with a constant 118.4 volt input.

Any suggestions on what is causing the Z4000 outputs to fluctuate and the best way to fix it.  Also, does anyone have a schematic for the Z4000 transformer.  Can't find anything on line or from MTH.

Thanks

do a search as john gunnerman has done a quite extensive testing to z40-4000 mth transformers, some of the older one's like 1 23 have more issues then do the 1 24 the later series.do a search on the forum for fluctuating voltages read with a dvm as opposed to the actual readout  do not match . use the  search engine on  this forum and you'll fin d a lot of issues on mth z40-4000 transformers or ask john gunnerman in an email or web posting!
