Zombie figures?

Arttista makes a realistic walking dead figure.

I knew Paul would come through on this.

I'm looking for a 1:48 scale zombie holding a paint brush standing on a scaffolding. I want to hang this off the side of the tender on a Halloween Vision Line Triplex. He’ll be painting out the factory “Happy Halloween” message and instead be making it say “End of the Line”.

We had a Zombie invasion at one of our Halloween shows

I hope all these guys are massing to head to their local train shops and buy O Gauge stuff. It’ll be a nice boost to the hobby.

I bought some 6 years ago but not sure the source.   But this google search produced some sources.  

You can also search for "28mm Zombies" or "30mm Zombies." This is how figures are described in the Miniatures/Gaming hobby.  These are a little smaller than O scale (just under 5 scale feet tall) but are workable.  There are a LOT of Zombies in the gaming hobby.

Also found this bag of 100 zombies for $11.49.  They are 1 1/2" (6 scale feet tall)

You guys are too cool.  I thought I was cool having a 24" tall Godzilla wrecking my O gauge town.

   I did an extensive search for O gauge zombie figures about two months ago.  What I found is that as far as really good quality figures, there aren't many.   The high-end folks like Artisa made a few, but really only about 6 or 8 good zombies.  Lionel made six or eight really nice figures several years ago, in a set, but they are so rare I think they are collectors' items. 

There are plenty of low grade figures, with blobby details, made by different companies.  Some injection  molded plastic, some are 3D printed, but as a whole they are silly looking.

If you search, you will even find a company selling a plastic bag full of zombies, with many "repeats" and only about 6 or 7 styles, and most of those are really science fiction looking "ghouls" with bald heads and pointed ears.  None of them are really walking dead style.

There is a true name- brand "Walking Dead" collection, and I think that they are even sold at Walmart. But they aren't O Scale, they are way too big.  And most of them are the non-dead heroes, like Daryl and Rick.

All in all, it was pretty disappointing.  I was hoping to find 30 to 40 great zombie figures, because if I went that way, it would be for the entire layout as opposed to a small street scene.

I think that in total, I only found about 10 figures that were first class looking.  Not enough for an "invasion."  :-O

Well, there are lots of O scale Zombies out there somewhere.  This was from Fall In!® 2024 historical gaming convention in Lancaster PA last November.  Looks like a lot of variety to me.  As I suggested above, search for "28mm Zombies" or "30mm Zombies" and look for companies that supply gaming miniatures.   Their figures are almost always superior to anything in the model train hobby except Artistta.

Another source for zombies is Horrorclix (search Horrorclix zombies on eBay and you will find lots of them for sale).  Some comic book stores and gaming stores may sell them, as well.  You will have to remove the gaming bases, but they are one of the more inexpensive options.

I have both sets of the Walking Dead metal nano-figs, and they are close enough to O scale to be used if placed carefully.

Although most zombies are reported to grunt “BRAINS”  as they stumble around looking for victims,

I wonder if O-gauge zombies stumble around grunting “TRAINS” !!!

Until this thread came along I had no idea zombies were so much fun. Makes me want to buy an Artista figure at York.

Here's a photo of Heloclix figures and the chap in the middle with the broken neck is from Arttista. Lower photo shows Lionel Zombie vampires inside the building, just awaking at dusk, ready to prowl the streets. Note how the building has become creepy due to what dwells within. On my layout, they're called Zombie Vampires.

The Miniprints zombies look pretty darned good, . . . but what's with all of the bald men?  Adding these to the Lionel and Arista figures would get you to around 16 O Scale figures or so.

True, there are lots of great "gaming" size zombie figures, but they are too short for my tastes. 

The Heroclix zombies look fantastic.  Yet, don't they equate to about 8 feet tall?

      I have decided that on my to-do list this summer, is to try to make my own zombie figures, by buying some regular O scale people who are walking or standing with their arms up, putting them on a fire brick, putting the brick on my gas barbecue grill (gas on low), and letting them heat up slowly until they start to moderately "droop" or "slump".   Then, while still soft, pushing their heads to one side or the other, maybe gouging out an eye, opening up their mouths with a razor knife lightly coated with oil, and perhaps pulling off a hand or arm.

    I mean really, . . . what could possibly go wrong?  :-O
