Zwl or four 180 bricks?

If all you run is command control than just use

the 180 watt bricks.They are half the price of

the ZW L, no electronics to fail and have a full

720 watts from 4 bricks.

I second that comment. We use the ZW-C with 4 bricks only because we also run conventional, so we use the ZW in program mode to control voltage seperately on all 4 throttles. If we didn't have the ZW-C, we would need a TPC for each brick for independent control

All command.......just stick with the bricks!

I agree with the conclusion, but hasten to point out that the PH-180 brick does indeed have electronics, they have an electronic breaker.

Yes the bricks would work fine but you also sacrifice one part of the Legacy system this way. The red triangle button shuts off everything on the layout that is command operated except the power to the tracks with the bricks only. If you're using a ZW-C or a ZW-L the power is also shut off when the button is pressed. This may or may not be an important feature.

Ron's point is that for TMCC/Legacy, if you power it with a ZW-C or ZW-L, the big red button on the CAB1 or CAB2 will do what the DCS remote button will do, turn off all the track power.  That's the difference.  If that's of significance to you, that's how you do it.  If you're happy with just protecting the circuit the usual way, the PH-180 and TIU combo is fine.  You'd still have the red button on the DCS remote that will shut down all the TIU channels.
