Definitely looks much better than the version Lionel displayed at York.  The lettering appears to be a darker blue which is much more pleasing to the eye on the gold background.  The lighter blue lettering looked horrible at York.  Possible it's the lighting, but my gut says Lionel may have adjusted the blue-on-gold for the production units.

Love the satin gold look... it's different than gold-plating in a pleasant way.  Enjoy!!!

Did you purchase the gold coaches as well?  They had the same blue/gold color issue at York, so perhaps Lionel corrected those as well.

Yes. The Whistle has nice echo that trails off in the distance. All the sounds are a little huskier than the Scale PM Berk which I always thought had great sounds. The synchronized chuffing is also very robust. Lionel did a great job with this one.

Any noticeable improvement to the sounds?

Now I wonder if Lionel improved the rear end observation cat as well! (I hear from Charlie the obs and coaches are 3-4 weeks out-one of those jit deliveries.

Charlie from Nassau Hobbies just posted a new Lionel shipping thread... And the PE coaches (regular and gold) are on the list to be shipped from Lionel NC next week.  So the Christmas rush of deliveries is on!!!

I must say I had zero interest in this when it was announced.  Partly due to zero finances available.  That being said,  DANG!  That looks amazing.  i wonder if in 75 years or so my grandkids and great grandkids will be watching it run in a museum with a full compliment of coaches.  This could easily be the next "Blue Comet" of collectible IMO.
