37043 Log Dump

Hello,

My grandson has a Lionel Log Dump car #37043. He uses Lionel Fasttrack. The car will not dump. Upon closer inspection I found that the plunger on the car rides very close to the rails. When activated the plunger is pulled down until it contacts the rail but it is not enough to release the dump. The rail stops the plunger from being pulled down enough to release the load. What can I do to correct this problem. Any help would be appreciated. I have attached several photos. I hope they can be of help.
