Lionchief Plus 2.0 questions

Going out to Stockyard Express this week to pre-order my first 1-2 LC+2.0 locomotives but, before doing so, I wanted to confirm my understanding of the new-to-me tech. I have a mix of conventional, 1 LC, 1 LC+, a slew of TMCC, and a handful of PS3. The LC and LC+ run with their dedicated remotes, the TMCC with the old Cab-1 or DCS remote. I also run conventional with the DCS remote on the variable channels. All good. No Legacy, no plans for it either.

  1. Can I operate an LC+2.0 loco with the TMCC Cab-1 or the DCS remote like a TMCC loco?
  2. Even if I can, I still like having multiple controllers for guests. Since Cab-1s are in short supply, it appears I could operate an LC+2.0 loc with a Universal Remote or, since they have Bluetooth, with a smartphone and Lionel app, correct?
  3. Would the Universal Remote work with my LC engine and my LC+ engine?

If the answers are all Yes as I think they are, kudos to Lionel for providing compatibility and variety.

Don’t have, and know little about, TMCC.

LC+2.0, which has Bluetooth, runs great using the Universal Remote (my preference) or the smartphone with the LC App. No extra wiring required for the good basic functions of command control.

I like running LC+2.0 using the Universal Remote so I can take videos of it using my smartphone, and often posting the videos on the Forum.

I believe the Universal Remote works provided the LC or LC+ has Bluetooth.

I don’t believe you can run an LC+2.0 using the DCS Remote.

As Pete said- any generation LC engine will work with the universal remote (UR). I also learned that you can pair the UR with the Lionchief app in Hotspot mode. This is useful for early LC engines that are controlled via RF. The engine has to be programmed in the UR first. The steps are explained fully in the instructions for the remote.

This only works with the Lionchief app, not the Cab3 app (for now at least).

And you can run Legacy engines that are Bluetooth equipped with the apps as well. A Base 3 is not required.

The Lionchief and Cab3 apps are similar. The Cab3 has improvements over the Lionchief including the ability to program and run up to 3 trains at once (no lash-ups tho).

I agree that Lionel has done a good job  of moving toward one standard to run their trains.
