I must be into a early christmas mood. I pulled the polar express out from under the layout and did some maintenance on it and have it running as I type this.

I removed the tender from its frame as I thought I better oil those shaft bearings at both ends for the air whistle only to discover it has a can motor mounted and is the air whistles fan impeller shaft as well.

I will say this whomever originally designed the smoke unit and the steam whistle for the polar express did a nice job as I and others whom own the first rendition of the polar express have an extra smoke feature included by accident? of the steam cylinder smoke and no cab-1 or 2 commands needed to do so.

I am running my S-3 milwaukee rd steamer and from long ago a lionel conventional great northern F-3 ABA  passenger train on a lower loop. so one modern engine and 2 conventional trains and am having a really good time doing so.

I like the modern engines and all that they can do! but find myself missing  the conventional trains as well they do have a persona all of there own as well as a smell that they alone can produce. one must be from the older childhood lionel days to really understand this its an era thing for we old timers and brings back memories of our childhood.

I hope all enjoy whatever era trains you have to run on your layout or carpet central or under the christmas tree.  hmmm i think I can smell a turkey baking ahhhhhhh
