my ninety-three year old mother-in-law (sweet lady) came by today with her son and 5yr old great grandson

they came by to see my mth christmas train - running on dinning room table

the little guy loves trains - his upcoming birthday gift will be a return trip to Spencer, NC

back to the MIL - after running the train for a bit she said, "Cut that off, the smoke smell is nasty!"

"I grew up near the train tracks and the real smoke did not smell this bad>"

later she called and said, "I know, if you look you can find better smelling smoke, like wintergreen or pine."

Chris - thank you for the megasteam site information - two things - one - i am building a permanent christmas layout - i am going to order some of the christmas, "smells" - pine tree, Cinnamon and maybe gingerbread - could be a lot of fun - and two and maybe more importantly he had some products to help with the health of the smoke system

again thanks

rdeal,

Buy your mum any aroma that would make her happy.

Pappy,

Thankfully no meds and for some time time now no Mother-in-Law, God rest her loving soul.  A very good woman and well meaning to be sure but it would not have mattered what train scent I used it would not have pleased her.  For me, her greatest and most remembered proclamation of all time was that Pine trees pollute the air.  So much for the pine aroma.  Like I said, to each his own.

I use "Eliminator" on every new or used engine with a smoke unit. Usually what ever smoke fluid they use at the factory is most likely cheap and definitely "Stinks" Megasteam suggests 3 fills with Eliminator then use what ever scent you like. The first night I run a new engine I don't use the smoke unit until I've filled it with Eliminator then let it sit overnight that also gives the batting a chance to get good and soaked before using it.

Winston Spencer Churchill has been the subject of many a piquant anecdote based on his personality, robust wit and felicity of phrase. The story is being told of his encounter with a politically minded lady who, after failing to shake him in an argument, broke off with the petulant remark, “Oh, if you were my husband, I’d put poison in your tea.” “Madame,” Winston responded, “if I were, I’d drink it with pleasure.”

I wouldn't get too crazy, but you could run coffee and frying bacon at the same time; diesel and coal, popcorn and beer, hot chocolate and cinnamon roll...So long as they are in the same "scent family" why not?

Jeff - Great Idea - - - THANKSGIVING DINNER - composed of turkey, favorite casserole, sweet tea and pumpkin pie - - - CHRISTMAS BREAKFAST - hot chocolate or decaf coffee, frying bacon, cinnamon roll , a hint of eggnog - - - wow!, a perfect way to celebrate the holidays around the train table

I had an old lady that looked like she could be someones mother-in-law

come up to my train board at Syracuse and say

"you need to slow those trains down so the kids can see them and

explain to them what they are".

I said thanks, and turned em up.

run em fast and furious!!! zoom zoom.

saw a quote I sent to my sister;

"sometimes when I open my mouth, my mother comes out"! HA!

Popi,

Right there with ya buddy, I would have turned them up before she walked away.

Got to admit, men with fantastic Mother-In Laws are far and few between, my father had such a mother in law, with my moms mother, and he treated her like the lady she always was.  I was not so lucky however, and my mother in law lived to be 99 years old, my wife has just recently started to understand, how nice life can really be.
