Hi All,
So my second Odyssey 1 loco broke tonight. I reported in another post that my CN Dash 9 had the magnetic ring on the motor break. I got lots of great advice from you all and I eventually took it in to my LHS to be repaired. I don't even have that engine back yet and now my CP SD40-2 has the same malfunction.
I recently reported in a different thread that my SD40-2 was making a rattling sound around curves. I was lubing it and getting ready to take the shell off and check things out. I had it upside down in my foam cradle with Alligator clips hooked up to turn the wheels. I heard a crack and some pieces falling inside the shell and its that same magnetic ring broken.
My question to everyone is if there is any possibility that my running it upside down cause the motor ring to break? I ask because that is exactly when the ring on my Dash 9 broke. I'm pretty sure that it is coincidence but I would hate to think that the rings breaking was my fault for running it in the cradle.
I hate to be negative but I have decided I will no longer buy any used locomotives and will buy only new ones under warranty. I am just not able to fix them myself and all of these problems is taking the joy out of my hobby that should be helping me relax and have fun. Either that or I just run my locos conventional.
Thanks for letting me vent.
