HI,



I am replacing an Atlas 054/072 switch because it has a "dead section" where the track divides between the two directions.  It is around 4 inches.  I have struggled with it and cannot run some engines as they stop at low speeds.  Have measured it with a meter and also it is non conductor material.  I covered part of switch part with copper foil and solves problem for a while but not a good fix.  Installed a piece of 054 track in place of switch.  If I install a regular 054 switch I have to modify some track.  Like the 054/072 tho.DSCN2373

I received a new 054 switch and see it is very much improved over older ones .  Did Atlas do anything to the 054/072 model???

Has anyone solved this problem???  Or experienced this situation???  Thanks DSCN2373

You could try the screw connection that Steve Horvath describes in the link provided by Ray.

I've seen so many posts of people having trouble with curved switches (and not just Atlas.)  Personally I advise against using them.  If additional power connections don't solve your problem, I would bite the bullet and redo your track geometry to eliminate the curved switch.  Or you could convert your whole fleet to battery-powered "dead rail!"

There are literally thousands of different locomotive designs out there, and who's to say what you might wish to buy in the future?  Having multiple roller pick-ups helps, but you also have the ground side of the circuit to think about.  Rubber tires are the enemy!

If you use the Forum's search feature, you'll see that others have had issues.  I'm not sure what improvements Atlas made on the "newer" versions, or how you could unequivocally identify them (since the product number never changed.)  I would personally avoid using ANY curved switches.  It's a hobby.  If you want to open yourself up to that possible frustration, then go for it!
