Is it new or Vintage? The older ones were 2 rail but the wheels would work on 3 rail I run the old vintage 2 rail on fast track all the time and I run them in reverse through switch’s also with no problem. Here’s a video of my All Nations cars with Atlas 2 rail trucks on fast track

Are the couplers different on 2 rail vs 3 rail? Reason I'm asking I bought one on the bay and didn't think to ask but I also see what looks like extra wheels in the Styrofoam. sorry for all the questions as I have never had 2 rail Atlas I have 3 rail so was just wondering, encase this comes in as 2 rail.

Will they work with each other?

Well I guess hotwater answered this question

It depends. The Kadee #805 "scale" coupler will actually couple to most of the manufacturers toy train "claw couplers". However, Atlas' own brand of "scale" couplers do not play well with the big toy train "claw couplers". Then, of course are the 2-Rail "scale" wheels, which generally do NOT play well on some of the 3-Rail track styles.

If it is one of those vintage Rivarossi Italian made Atlas models from the '70s, it has the couplers that mate with tinplate even though the wheels are for scale OR tinplate track. Crazy huh? Those of us who bought them back in the day had to put Kadee's on 'em to get rid of that super size horn hook!

Bill.

If you like the car body, Atlas O sells three-rail trucks that screw to the chassis like the two-rail on most cars. Removal of the coupler box is necessary. Watch for the spring for the coupler as you open the box.  I use two small screw drivers to pop the coupler box tab.  The only cars that do not convert are Steam Era box cars that have a different floor truss height that creates a different clearance. All modern era cars are able to have trucks switched.  I have probably done 75 cars in my collection in order to get the car bodies I wanted.

I did an Atlas O 8000 gallon tank car conversion 2-rail to 3-rail a few years ago. It can be done, but it was not an easy job. Not a modern era car, of course.

Well I was kinda surprise but not totally as I thought I saw other wheels. So I'm guessing this which came with it might have been the original set up and he just put two rail wheels and scale coupler on it.

So it looks like I can convert it back to 3 rail as all the parts are here.
