Joe, yes I have seen '50s Cadillacs. How many Cadys can you put on a '50s West Virginia coal hauling layout?
@Quarter Gauger 48 posted:Believe it or not Diecast Direct just offered that exact car. $89.00 , I ordered one.. Buick had the same design that year too.. Not sure about Olds, and Pontiac. Never seen any. I had a buddy that did have the Buick. what a monster, a person could actually live in those cars. The interior was even larger than the Hudson 4DR Sedan of the same year...
Ted, I noticed the offering on the DD website...nice quality. I'm pretty sure my Dad had the Pontiac version in what I call a silver blue color. As a little guy then, I recall the brand insignia on the hood. I later became familiar with the "Chief" insignia as Pontiac. Without ever thinking about it until now, that car may have been the beginning of my likeness for 'sharp' cars...lol.
Even "Vettes" need to go up on the lift once in a while...the GTO driver goes inside for directions (pre-nav system)...

Paul, what I've always found fascinating about the cars of the late 40s is the many different models each brand offered. We had a 49 Buick straight 8, Roadmaster.. another tank on rubber tires. But what a smooth ride'... and great passing power on the interstate...
You know guys coming to this tread is kind of like a double edge Soward!
I really love all the cars and stories you all have been posting, between the old cadies to the vets and to the newer stuff Joe puts up here! I could put them all on my layout and be just fine with it! LOL
Now the bad part is I am so jealous that you are all having fun and all I can do is sit here reading and watching while I wait for the house to sell!
I know Ted your going to say I can do something, but I can't as everything is packed up ready to move and the CEO would kill me if I bought something new before we move! At least were looking for a house with a basement for a new train room!
Get yourself a small kit.. to work on.. All you'll need is a ruler, exacto knife.. have fun...
Mike, good luck with the move...not an easy process these days...Ted makes a good point...a great way to pass the time while the house sells!
Thanks guys, I would get a small kit, but that would be one more thing I have to worry about hiding when someone wants to come for a showing. I already have to catch the cats, dog, and make sure the place is staged back the way the relator has it set up.
To be honest there is no way anyone could live in a staged house! LOL

Hey Mike, I got in big trouble from MGT when those slightly clad ladies showed up'...

I can't understand that, I thought they were great and that's real life! Plus some of them were really HOT!
What did you use to strip the paint?
Lee, I didn’t realize the two finished ones are Tootsietoys. Excellent transformation!!
Here's my small fleet of Lionel semi-trucks, some early 1950s Ford pickup trucks, a couple of 1957 Ford Idaho State police cars, and a Greyhound Scenicruiser Bus, circa 1962.

Vern, that’s a nice fleet!
I like a few die cast vehicles on any layout. Thank you, Mark.

thanks mark the trailer is a Lionel Piggyback
I picked these '67 Impalas up at Lowe's. They had black, white, blue and red. I went for these two. got home and remembered I already had a red one. They're made by Kinsmart and 1/43. Right now they're on a shelf next to a Testor's 1/48 GT40. and they look massive. I'll have to check them with some other 1/43. I have to correct myself. I must have been thinking of the '61 Bel Air.
Pictures I just looked at show these are correct.

The impalas look great, Joe!
When a 1:43 scale model of a light blue 1956 Continental Mk II auto became available, I had to have one. It's a match to my actual classic car. I placed the model on my layout as proof that "art imitates life."

Thank you, Joe. I can’t take credit for that one. Forum member, Myles ‘Trainman 2001’ built this kit for his layout, but needed room for more scratch built buildings.

That’s awesome! I rode on several of them to and from California when a teen back in the 1960s. My last one was from Travis AFB to San Francisco International in 1974, en route to Pensacola, FL (Navy days).
Thank you, Joe. 👍
