"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.

Post your non-O scale stuff here!

Is it possible (and easy) to install PS2 into a Bachmann Ten-Wheeler?

The engine I have isn't an "Annie" (Anniversary) engine, but it does have metal siderods.  I've been running it using my old Aristo-Craft Train Engineer and a power supply from an old laptop computer.  I have a PS2 kit laying around and thought it might be a good project.

I've read that the PS2 and DCS can be run off DC, does that mean I can use the laptop power supply (straight to the TIU)?  The power supply has a 18.5v, 3.5amp DC output.

What I hope to get out of it is better steam sounds and possibly bell and whistle, along with headlight and backup light.  Smoke is of no matter.

The only thing I'm concerned about is the POS can motor in the Bachmann engine, but I've seen O scale enignes with the same style motor in them.

It works fine as it is, but hey, experimenting is half the fun!

The first thing you have to determine is that does the motor have a flywheel of sufficient size to apply the tach strip.  The second thing is whether there is room to mount, and a way to mount the tach reader.

If the answer to any of these questions is "no" then you may as well forget about installing DCS in this engine.

I looked Ray's site over but all he offers is to do the upgrade, not instructions on how to DIY.

It does involve replacing the motor with one that will support a flywheel.  I don't mind that, but getting one of these things open is a PITA, I don't know how someone can design such a convoluted assembly I had to take photos before I took mine apart last year to repaint it, had to bag each piece and label where they came from.
