I would like to be able to use my computer to control all aspects of my layout. Today, I can use the computer to control lighting and switchs(I'm using servos). I want to control my trains the same way. This would involve writing some code(python, c++) that could issue the same commands to the trains that the CABs do. It would be like a virtual CAB that I could make things happen from my computer console. Is there a way(other than reverse engineering hacks) to issue train commands via my own software? I think if programatic access to the base 3 was available via APIs, it would open up the hobby to Makers and Hackers who would start building some amazing things. It seems like a logical next step given the current move to Apps. Of course I'm not talking about being able to modify the base 3 firmware or OS. A developers kit that supports python for the base 3 would do the trick for me. Does/Will this exist? I'm probably off in La La land but Its been on my mind. Thoughts?
