Two modern 6464-515 MKT Girl's Train boxcars.  Car on the left is the NETCA "as cataloged" car.  Car on the right is the 1999 version; part of the 6464 remakes.  I assembled it from from parts and  used a yellow door as it's correct(ish) from MKT's yellow cars.  Lots of differences in fonts and placement of lettering between the two cars.DSC_0059DSC_0060DSC_0062

Well Dave, I could not resist your opening with Central of Ga which was a principal RR in the area where our family spends summers (Tybee Island, just East of Savannah).  This one is Lionel (MPC)  and is a re-issue although it carries the original 6464 number its product number is 19279.  She is a 40 footer and uses a duplicate 6464 shell.

My 027 "plug door" contribution for this week is an MPC Soo car from 1971 in "cherry red" of all things:

And the hastily rubber-stamped end-flap on the box, again just big enough to hold the car with the couplers turned under the floor:

"A Lifetime of Railroading," indeed! Tom @Krieglok shows us how this car should look:

Next week's 027 offering will be a bit more fun...

K-Line - a nicely decorated, but basically plain jane boxcar. Did they really ride the rails with no reporting marks?IMG_7758

A very nice car, Mark. I think she may have been an "express service" car that would have been included, from time to time, in the "Phoebe Snow" passenger consists of the day. She's painted to match their passenger car livery.

@Bill Swatos,

Bill,

Correct. The Legacy K-Line Trains website lists the car as K761-1641 Lackawanna Express Service Scale Boxcar.

Speaking of Pittsburgh-related MTH cars, Walt, here's one celebrating KDKA, America's oldest radio station broadcasting for 104 years from your home town since 1920:

The automobile is a 1957 Chrysler 300 and the station logo is from the '50's. Interestingly, they still use their original "K" designation likely because their founding predates the adoption of the broadcasting station convention of "W" for east of the Mississippi and "K" for west of it. I just couldn't resist it NIB on clearance from Forum sponsor Trainz.

Bill, I have lived 40 miles north of Pittsburgh, except for 13 years working in Virginia and Northern West Virginia years ago.  I'm with Walt, I have never seen that car before.  I have seen lots of the cars from Walt's photographs before.  There have been quite a few as Walt said.  Yes it is interesting KDKA has kept the 'K'.  There is another radio station in Pittsburgh that has always started with 'K' and is only 3 letters; KQV.

Dave, Thanks for getting us rolling on this Boxcar Sunday!

Here’s another plugdoor boxcar from a Lionel promotional set.

I scrubbed this car last night with a soft toothbrush and a cleaner out of a reused bottle that I labeled train cleaner. It’s a clear solution. I’m thinking that it might have been an earlier recommendation on the forum.

I ran a train with two New Haven boxcars – #35238 (Crown Model Products) and #78000 (MTH 20-99327) – behind Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal 0-6-0T steam switcher #15. The engine is a Lionchief Plus 2.0 model (2032020) and also the smallest O gauge steam engine model in my collection. Lionel lists its length as 8.5 inches. The engine is so small that it’s dwarfed in comparison to scenery and structures on the layout, and even the boxcars.

@Sitka - Wow my man, you really are a risk taker.  I could imagine explaining to Mom why her cake was all over the lower level of your layout!  !

Well today since @pennsyfan has included a great boxcar from one of Lionel's foray's into the toy business (Kaybee Toys) I thought I might include a posting from their other venture "Toy's R Us"  this one a giraffe car featuring the famous "Geoffrey" the giraffe.  Made between 1985-1989 this car was always uncatalogued, usually offered in the train sets sold by Toy's "R" Us.

Aaaand, as promised last week, here's a fun 027 "plugdoor" MPC offering from 1972, the #9301 Operating U.S. Mail Car:

Though promoted as "new" on the box, this car is actually a reissue of the late PW original, #3428, which was produced from 1959-1960. Three PW versions were produced, the nicest (Variation C) having the postman in blue with a painted face and grey mailbag.

And now for the "action and excitement" and "great railroad realism" this car adds to your layout:

Now we know how our packages get damaged in the mail...

For this Boxcar Sunday I’m presenting this KLine custom car made for KLine Super Store M&G Hobbies; to honor Battleship New Jersey. I’m showing it today to honor the recent and ongoing activities of refloating her and  restoring / painting the hull. IMG_1548

I remember M&G Hobbies in New Jersey.  It was a nice little place.  I won a K-Line GG-1 in a customer raffle they had there.   Sorry the store didn't last.
