Here is my latest cool purchase.... after restoration + refurbishment.

An American Flyer Burlington Zephyr 9900 with Sand Cast Aluminum shells, now all nicely buffed out.

The headlight is currently not correct, but it works for me.  I have not figured out how to get a correct replacement headlight lens yet.  Any ideas?

I recently spotted the Lionel Postwar 1805 USMC Land-Sea and Air set in an auction just 90 minutes from my house.  There was only one small picture with the listing so I was not totally sure of the condition, but I won it with a bid of just $330.  The set turned out to be in mostly excellent condition with just a broken blade on the original USMC helicopter and missing insert and accessories on the 6824 Rescue Caboose.  All of the steps on the 45 Mobile Launcher are intact and the original man, control panel and missiles are there.  The submarine is original down to the clear panel on the bottom and the aged rubber band inside and is missing only the periscope, also easily replaced.  Needless to say, I am very pleased with my find.

Purchased a couple of Lionel Limited Edition Series cars from my Local Hobby Shop "Whistle Stop Trains", in Portland Oregon.

The really cool story for me is there actually is a LHS just 30 mins away!

It's a nice store stocked with a little bit of everything, and run by friendly people.

Since retail restrictions have eased up, I have been visiting once a week to see what's new, yesterday I purchased two cars, paints,
and a copy of  "Model Railroading with John Allen, by Linn Westcott".

The book is great and I've not seen the Limited Edition Series before.  Picked up this nice O27 green British Columbia Railway tank car and PRR boxcar.
Cars have sprung die-cast trucks and have "BLT 1-81 Lionel".  My first thought was to use the trucks for a project, but perhaps they are too nice to scavenge.

First, congrats on having a LHS in the neighborhood - it is becoming so rare. The tank car is an MPC era car from the Maple Leaf Limited set. I still have the set and that car is still one of my favorites - love the bright color and the graphics. And British Columbia Railway isn’t a common road name. In my opinion, it would be a shame to scrounge the trucks and lose the body. As for the PRR box car, is it by any chance a 9441??? If so, it came from the same set. While I wouldn’t do it, the thought of scrounging the trucks from it doesn’t upset me as much - the PRR Merchandise Service is a much more common paint scheme. Hope you enjoy them in either case.

Thanks for the information Paul, the PRR boxcar is numbered 9441, so it looks like a set breakup.  The crane car and maybe the hopper were also on the shelf.

After seeing the cars up close, it’s doubtful I will scavenge parts.  It’s something I tell myself I’ll do as justification for buying, and then just keep the item instead.

PS- It's only 15 minutes away from my house. Yea- Us Lawn-guy-land guys are spoiled.

Bob

Looks nice Bob, can’t go wrong with the Standard Railroad of the World (after all, it did have a Lawn-guy-land presence). Unfortunately, I note it is conventional only... you’re backsliding, Bob

As for the 15 minutes from the house line, I hope you hit Hamptons traffic - in BOTH directions!!!

Very well done! To find one of these engines with all the steps and the cars in the condition you describe is a steal for the price you paid. Well done indeed!

Awesome buys fellows, Third Rail, Bill T, wow, that’s a beautiful EJ&E box car, and it’s great to see you recovering well from your recent heart issue, You are in our prayers here in Tennessee. I’m glad to see so many 44 toners on many layouts. I have a picture of my friends Dr. Jack Fishers..... Happy Railroading Everyone 3ECCCA11-C393-47E5-A46D-A66E6945FAD823ADC32B-75DF-4450-BBEE-2E66F673E719
