Cab 2 Replacement

Use the LSU (Legacy System Utility) to backup the old base, and then restore it to the new base.  This obviously supposes that the old base can talk to the serial port and the memory is still intact.  From your description, I have no idea what happened, or what component actually failed, was it the CAB2 or the Legacy base?

It would appear to be the base, since the remote is working fine. Thanks for the assist. I will try it tomorrow. I would hate to have to re-enter all that stuff!

Next time, I suggest using the LSU periodically to save your configuration.

Amen to that. I am surprised that Lionel does not make it any easier to transfer this information. I am sure others have had to replace the Cab 2 base. Thanks again!!

this is because nothing is stored in the handheld, everything is in the base.

which is why you should back up your base as mentioned above.

It is easy. 

Your base may just suffer low output. Loose terminal inside or device failure. Generally Lionel fixing it does not lose the data.

Well, he wasn't connecting with the CAB2, so I think it's more along the lines of the 2.4ghz transceiver for the remote that's the issue.

Interesting update. I have tried several times to install the Legacy System Utility and I keep getting the message "Not enough storage to perform this function". I have tons of storage and cant figure out what is wrong.

You can also run SFC from an admin command prompt to see if any Windows O/S files are corrupted.

John- Finally got it to load. There was an error in the zip file function that I did not see at first. Uploaded and created a backup file and cleaned up some issues in the lists. It cleanly downloaded into my new Cab2 base from the old one. Thanks so much for your valuable assistance.

Yes it did. It is very useful software, especially being able to edit and clean up the information on the Legacy system.
