I noticed in the new Lionel catalog they are going to make a matching hopper for each diesel. If they made a matching caboose, would you folks purchase it as well?

The hoppers should have an E.O.T. on them. And they should have prototype paint schemes.
I was kinda hoping we'd see the UP CA4, in proper ion Pacific, of course...

I think cabooses are a thing of the past. No SD70 ever pulled a caboose. They need to have cars with an end of train device built in (FRED).
They shouldn't have included a matching caboose on their BNSF ice cold express. They also shouldn't be including one on their new BNSF "maxi-stack" set from the latest RTR catalog.
Cabooses belong on 1970's and earlier locos.
Cabooses didn't start to disappear till 1983 on the UP, even later on the SP, Santa Fe and BN. Even then it was a slow process. But SD60's did pull trains with cabooses. As for matching cars, I think a double stack would be better than a fantasy hopper, IMHO. Really though, if hoppers or cabooses with the fantasy paint jobs sell then fine. You don't have to buy one.

Lionel seems to favor the fantasy caboose thing. They must sell, otherwise they wouldn't keep doing them. Personally, i wouldn't buy one unless it was for repainting.

Seeing how Lionel made fantasy Heritage units for BNSF (that will never come to light by BNSF), I'm guessing they will throw in the caboose for all the upcoming heritage units. I won't buy them, but obviously they do sell.
Why did the leaders at LIONEL not make modern era S Scale versions of the Trinity 5161 Cu. Ft. 3-Bay Covered Hoppers and Plug-door 50' Box Cars that will match the SD70ACe and ES44AC diesels?
The ACF Center Flow Cylindrical 3-Bay Covered Hoppers match the 1960's time period of the U33C diesel locomotives. The 1960's Cabooses match the U33C diesels.
