I should know better. I spent or wasted the day today with some log headed ideas of what I was doing  was correct. I know better, but my brain is (maybe) fading? I reset the main remote and that was a total waste of time and energy.

I wasted hours messing with the remote and the software.

1) If the remote shuts off, it's the batteries. Period. I blamed all other stuff. I fixed the battery's contacts, and it works. This remote has worked for a few years since I bought it as new. It just must have loosed up over time and started acting up.

Then, ....

I can't add any 3 rail engines? Well my 3 rail layout is on TIU #4. So even though I reset the remote, and actually remembered to add TIU #4 to it, it wouldn't add an engine no matter what I tried. Tether, light bulbs, direct wiring, etc. Deleting TIUs #2 and #3

Dah. I had to run wires from my TIU #1 directly to the 3 rail engines. Why? OK, because TIU #1 is on my 2 rail loops.

2) No matter what I tried engines only add to the lowest number TIU in the remote. I knew that. Barry B taught me that years ago.

So on my outside remote, I removed TIU#1 to eliminate that issue, many years ago.

I forgot! That cost me hours! Tethering doesn't fix that! I thought the engines had dead batteries.

So I add the engines to TIU #1 with jumper wires to the engines, then put them on their 3 rail loop, and pressed read to associate them to TIU #4. Done.

So many new users probably don't have multiple TIUs. They may not have remote battery issues yet. They won't get to know how valuable members like Barry B, and Marty F were to quickly guide us. I got spoiled and now I have to think on my own.

Well OK. Matt reminded me today about the remote's batteries after I exhausted every other avenue.

So the DCS gurus are still here.
